Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

The answer is Dick Lochner………………..The question is, Who murdered the Dick Tracy cartoon strip!!

Or it could be one of the myriad of workers that make the circus possible. And don’t forget Fo Fum the evil giant twin.

I never really grew up with Dick Tracy, and this is the first time I’ve ever followed one of the newspaper story arcs. My question is: Does anyone in this comic strip get to the point, ever?
leakysqueaky712 said, 3 months ago
Not to worry Margueritem……Rhoda is taking her nap under my hat. She will be up soon enough causing mayhem.

Yeah, it could even be the clown with the smoking gun in his hand.

Normal strip…

One character from the sideshow that Ringo failed to mention Shred-O, the human shredding machine. He shreds newspapers and magazines, tearing them into small squares, with nothing but his feet. He’s my prime suspect. This will later be explained by the boys in the lab, through DNA and fungus testing.

They keep reusing that drawing of Sloppy the Clown. Originality and consistency is not a hallmark of this strip these days.
So Carlo, I guess you have NO news at all about a new writer? Thanks for sharing buddy.

According to Ringo’s puny whip(looks more like a hair growing out of a test tube) he is not happy to see anybody anymore.

Just received Vol.8 of the Complete Dick Tracy ‘42 - ‘44 with Pruneface on the cover. Flattop makes his appearance Dec 21st, ‘43. It’s about this time (1942} that I started to follow the strip daily along with the other great comics of that era. 9 years old, World War ll, a busy time in our lives. For the old timer’s reading this current version of Dick Tracy, it’s a joke, for kids introduced to it, a shame.
The “comments” are the entertaining force here. What the shame is that the present media environment won’t support this iteration for very much longer to search for a good writer and artiist that could equal the artistry of Gould.

New poster “achtungkitten” is onto something there.
A pall has fallen over the comments here. Reason? Locher has outwaited and outwitted us …. now, there is nothing NEW to comment on.
Unless we do the same thing HE does, and “REPEAT” the same things we said yesterday
Now we have DICK “STASIS”. Which Dick? Both ! In this Circus they’re joined at the hip

“Mr. Pops go fix your face. Did you have a stroke or something ?”
Actually, there is a tropical “folk remedy” for that sort of thing. Suck NUTMEGS !
I have a friend, who seriously wants to send Greta Van Sustren (Fox News) a small Box of them.

Wow, I never thought that “anybody” in the circus would include, like, all those people in the circus. I’m glad we took a break from the hectic pace of this comic strip to explain that one.

For LudvigVonDrake: In this moment no news about a new writer, only rumors.

achtungkitten:
I grew up reading the old Dick Tracy strip in the 50’s and 60’s when it was produced by Chester Gould. Believe me, Chester Gould is probably rolling over in his grave right now.
Cartoonists like Dick Locher are just simply picking up a paycheck for such drivel. He should be reading the old strips daily for some inspiration.

Looks like Lt. Columbo is need here. He has experience. Like one more thing. At solving mysteries of murder.

At least we’re not seeing the dead lady anymore. She’s probably just a skeleton by now, anyway.

How much time has passed since the show started? Is the audience still there? Was the second letter sent by mail? How did it arrive? Why is the clown face used over and over? Why does Ringo have dark hair and look 20 years younger again?

That line on Matthew the Head Clown today is a classic and the subtle innuendo immediatly after just sweetened the pot.
Someone with a similar name wrote me on the Yahoo DT board complaining that I had accused him of writing here under a pseudonym. The only candidate was under DLisagenius. But our Mattie’s style is more like Big Foot rather than Little Foot but they all have their Wrist Geenees tuned to Naperville HQ

I read the old Dick Tracy when it was a Harvey comic
book and although this is but a shadow of the original,
I still find myself entertained – especially the recent
strip where a robot came out of the big robot’s bleeep and
demolished the bad robot. I think Locher is doing the
best he can – Chester Gould was a genius way before
his time and I’m just sitting back and enjoying this because
the witty comments are as entertaining as the strip itself
so long as they show proper respect for Locher’s age.
channce said, 3 months ago
Could be that the murderer is a lurker that doesn’t appear on a regular basis, but who just joins in once in a while.
channce said, 3 months ago
I think we are smart enough to keep the comments fresh and interesting even if the strip gets repetitive and boring.

Macy hasn’t even asked to look at the Mr. Pop’s gun. Maybe it’s a sniper rifle in disguise. I know……I know……. you all don’t have to remind me. Macy was busy exposing himself with the bottomless popcorn box while this all was taking place.
