Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

This whole thing is bizarre…

Ah, all the preceding was merely the introduction to the REAL story…

Bizarre does not even begin to explain it. Nonsensical, farcical, unbelievable, incomprehensible, moronic and just plain ol’ dumb is the only way to explain what we have just witnessed. Is it possible that they could please write a story that has a modicum of continuity and coherency?

But other than that, how did you like it?

As the Big Ace walked off in Handcuffs it signaled the story was rapidly winding down. But no sign of star witness “Skinny” Tons ?
I’d hoped this morning to see Tracy reporting in at HQ and enjoying some camaraderie with Sam, Lizz and even Teevo. (Now I say this knowing he wouldn’t be there. In fact, he may not even report in before the next story !(?) He may get into the next case straight from home. He’s done that for ALL of this year, New M.O !
On Wednesday we saw a kill for Tracy (first one confirmed in 16 years). And I suspect that by tomorrow or the day after we can score one more for Dick Locher as he again snuffs out another regular Gould “practise” readers all enjoyed.
Armed with expertise of holsters full of card cliches and the confidence of launching the L.I.T.T. Tracy was well prepared through *cartomancy to “peek” at what future Locher had in store for his colleagues.
1) Will Sam make a comeback from Locher’s 3 year suspension ?
2) Teevo hasn’t “cut the mustard”, and the only thing we know about him is that he’s had a “nose” job (no more ski jump nose). After two and a half years we don’t even know his first name (warm thermal power, cold, careless character development ?)
If we had to write a “bio” on him what would we write ? “Arrived for post 2.5 years ago ! He is a Lieutennant (of something ?) and has communications expertise. Full STOP ! But wait, can he fire a gun ? Why has he never left HQ (?) and he’s in “communications” yet he doesn’t have a Wrist Geenee ? Some thing is very, VERY wrong !
Locher must be learning (too late), that it’s easier to “kill” what Gould passed to him than to “create” new characters that can ENDURE ! Fact is, Teevo’s a nerd and a major FLOP !
What a depressing mess ! And somebody gets paid for all this ? !

B.O.! Hide the money before Macy cons you out of it. Macy’s found a better system than you have! DON’T FALL FOR IT!
I promise you he’ll make more doing card tricks than enforcing the law.

Good point morrow–since Macy will need to turn it over to Infernal Revenue and you will never see it again.

So if One-Eyed Jack was letting customers win, why didn’t he just have one of his many henchmen pose as a customer? And why hasn’t Tracy had his gun confiscated while they investigate his shooting of the henchman? Why is the King still free after he shot One-Eye? Doesn’t this stuff get investigated? Why isn’t Tracy on report for sending a civilian in with a wire and no court order? Why did Tracy not call the SWAT team in until he was on the way to the casino? If Tracy used his own deck to cheat Big Ace, why didn’t he just use a regular crooked deck instead of mucking with heat-sensitive cards? Why doesn’t Tribune Media Services seem to give a bleeep that one of their oldest and most iconic properties is being written by hacks?

“The super-secret brilliant-genius significance of the two addresses for the SWAT team was…what, exactly?”
I figured this one out on my own, so you’ll forgive me if I don’t spill my guts here. I never lost faith that you could figure out the rest of this story on your own, Grok. :)
I agree with you, wholeheartedly, that “the system” was devilishly preposterous. Sadly, we will have to wait to see if the double-or-nothing bet pays off.

Jeff, Above “Jumbobrain” asks some questions no one would have needed to ask if the script had been written by Gould or Collins. The situation would NOT have arisen because they would have followed regulations and police proceedure.
The King should have been detained in custody (even by a grateful Tracy) for Investigation. Instead of handing satchels containing over a million dollars to “entrap” a man the King doesn’t even know ! I’m afraid Locher has the Detective acting like like a loose cannon. The address difference is a careless mistake.
The plan to approach Big Ace (no prior evidence) is farcical and entirely “dependent” on Big Ace overreacting. To show how silly (and laughable) it really is, what would have happened if Big Ace (under his system) had drawn the Ace of Spades ? One can only stifle the pain by treating it all as a big joke. The tale is “rife” with several other questionable sequences.
You’re entitled to an opinion (even with fingers crossed, and a hope and a prayer) that Locher can “somehow” get it all “right”. That’s just NOT going to happen. It’s “botched” beyond repair. The tale has been “carelessly” constructed with a silly outcome by a man who “KNOWS” better.
You wonder why 99% of posters slam it ?
It’ pains them to see this unnecessary embarrassment to a favorite comic strip ! And they’re really HERE unified for “Dick”, the one named Tracy !
