Chester Gould, a veteran cartoonist, began drawing his most legendary character, the dashing and daring Dick Tracy for the newspaper comics page in 1931. Modeled in the image of the innovative Sherlock Holmes, Gould was inspired to create new crime-fighting technology, including the two-way wrist TV, closed circuit TV police line-up and the engineless car that took Dick Tracy to the moon (both literally and figuratively).
Although many remember him with fond nostalgia, Dick Tracy, now written and illustrated by Dick Locher, continues to be relevant as he combines old-fashioned values with 21st century innovation to capture corporate crooks, computer pirates, polluters, skyjackers, gang members and terrorists.

I never knew that Tracy had blue eyes!

Are you kidding me? A family of card clothes wearing fruitcakes?
That barely resembles Tracy in the last panel.
Snotpickers Grab bag - If you Gamble, your eyes will go cross-eyed and bug out.
Wonder who shot OEJ?

If you’re swimming in shark infested waters, it might be dangerous.
What the f— happened to Tracy’s face in the last panel?!

How about some vintage Tracy from the Gould days with Flat Top, Prune Face, et al. Or when Tracy met B.O.

Well bless my soul ! Never thought they would unveil a surprise. Queenie may not have been an unexpected one, as every one was still milling around conspiciously in their Madi Gras costumes although Carnival was over months ago.
Looks like Jimmy the Slip kicked the “John Hi” Peking Duck habit. Not a sign of the critter today. Only the “pair”’ neatly concealed (facing each other) in Locher’s new signature, which he unveiled the very week he took over as writer from Kilian. That’s discreet enough. for me. No quarel ! Not in my face, or like some funky lines in a picture frame on the wall masquerading as a mammary in abstract art !
The ongoing tradition of slips continues. Who will get nailed for Jack getting the gun. The Sergeant, demoted to Corpral for carelessness (?) or Tracy back in uniform and on the beat for naively forgetting earlier to use handcuffs (?)

I remember seeing a spoof on “Crimestoppers Textbook” back circa 1971: “Rookies-never pull the trigger while aiming your loaded gun at your head”

This can’t be a Sunday, something actually happened.

I like how lazy Brozman got with the fourth panel. “I’ll draw a blank face with eyebrows.” Fine art at its best!!!

Go 2 blazes?? Not even the word Hell can be used in a comic strip…

If one of those writer’s wants to see the Pruneface, flattop etc. era, check out the Chester Gould Dick Tracy book, now volume 8. Available on Amazon, and just getting into that era. Books start at the beginning, and will run to mid70s. One thing you’ll notice is the same characters(or relatives) don’t reappear every 6 months. I guess you’d call that creativity.

How I used to love reading Tracy when I was a kid. Seriously, there have got to be some young writers and cartoonists out there who are actually capable of carrying on this strip?
Years ago they tried to revive Pogo with a new writer and artist. Although it didn’t last, the art was beautiful - very similar to Walt Kelly. Blondie has lasted through many different hands but still has a level of quality to it.
Why are they so determined to kill Tracy?? It almost seems like the syndicate is trying to give themselves an excuse to retire the strip.
“If we can just get the client list down to 5 newspapers…”
On the plus side, some of the comments here are hilarious - they are the best reason to keep reading this strip online.

Hey gang…This is my first time posting here and I enjoy reading all these comments. When I first saw OEJ I remembered right away “Queenie”.

That 1971 spoof “Rookies-never pull the trigger while aiming your loaded gun at your head” sounds funny until you remember what happened to Jon-Erik Hexum about a decade later.

Plot! FINALLY!

One of the backup cops didn’t shoot Jackie. There’s a new character arriving. It was in the samples that were linked here a few weeks ago.

“Your family?”
“Your sister?”
“Queenie?”
I’m surprised Tracy didn’t say “Pow?” in the final panel.

I nominate Jack’s hand in panel 2 as the worst hand drawing of all time.

Someone removed my entire post today and I didn’t say anything offensive. Smells like an old rat is loose in the woodwork.

Tracy has blue eyes now, but with the consistency of this strip, he will likely have brown eyes by next weekend.

Hey Morrow, what did you say that got deleted?
