Using an unusual mini-movie storytelling format, recovering lawyer Tim Eagan punctures pompous personalities, deflates bloviators, and attempts to shine light where it is most needed. This outrageous strip appears in mainstream and alternative West Coast papers and has been described as "Tom the Dancing Bug meets Ted Rall."

Winning the election was just winning the first battle, there is still a long war ahead.

It is high time for both Republicans and Democrats to work together. Both parties need to come up with a viable plan or we are going to continue our journey into a depression. It’s ridiculous to continue the blame game. Work together and come up with a solution, before it’s too late.

“Work together and come up with a solution”? Now THAT’S the politics of HOPE. Not reality. Just hope.
Let’s imagine that American has two parties, one for somewhat limited government and the other for nearly unlimited government. (That’s what the Repubs and Dems were for decades, tho not after the Repubs gained power and started spending as if they were Dems demselves.) So what would Bipartisanship mean?
It would be the demand by one party to another to surrender its principles (already weakened by the fact that the Repubs were too cowardly to properly defend the capitalist system and the Dems too cautious to come out forthrightly for socialism) and simply concede the field to the other.
That is what Obama had in mind in his inauguration speech when he told his opponents to put aside their supposedly outmoded principles and to get practical, meaning to agree with whatever he says and let him do everything he wants. And he calls it bipartisan.

pschearer, instead of talking about how horrible Obama is, think about how bad the last Republican presidents have been. Name five things they did for America. Real, tangible, good things. Clinton gave as an enormous surplus, a good education, decent help for the poor, good relations with western countries, and aid to state governments. What has Shrub given us?

Geekologist: They kept us safe from terr. (No typo, that’s what W said.)
They protected you from Jose Padilla, whose IQ hovers around 65 and was going to set off a dirty bomb. They protected you against the wackjob that was going to cut down the Brooklyn Bridge with an acetylene torch in broad daylight. The shoe=bomber, and those morons in Miami that were entrapped into expressing an interest in cool commando kicks. That’s the war on terr.Oh, and those hapless idiots that were going to pull the land-shark pizza delivery scam on an army base. Thorazine would have been cheper, in every case. Tired policies, tired bravado, tired excuses.

I’m still registered as a Republican, at least for now.
There are still Republicans in the house and Senate that have the welfare of the nation in their mindset. The Republican bloc vote in the house against the spending bill was a bi-partisan message to the Senate and the President from thinking Republicans. The crazies will vote against everything that the Democrats propose. The real patriots will vote their best judgment!

JDG, how was the entire Republican membership of the House voting as a block against a bill an example of Bipartisanship? Please explain.

Solid message to the Senate and the President that this was not a good bill in this form. Some Democrats voted against for the same reason. Never fear, the senate will have a bill with differences and then a committe will hammer out the real one to send to President Obama. Long road there.. and then I trust Obama to send it back if it is not good for the country. All money bills must begin in the house and this was a hurry-up measure. The real bill is being worked up now. I hope President Obama doesn’t fall inte the Bush trap. They sent him what he asked for and He just signed it. That pretty much defines the mess we are in today!
