Well, it may not be all that straight forward, to quote from a new release:
The study apparently didn’t take into account the emissions of either the SUV or the dogs.
Seems it was based on feeding the dogs high quality meat products (really good dog food…no wonder way back when the senior citizens were buying dog food for their meals!). The moral of the story is always look at the details.
It has to do with the fact we feed our dogs better than homeless, or third world folk. BTW, odd that so many folks shrug off dog food when it’s better than fast food.
New Zealand has some beautiful country, and neat people, and penguins.
fennec, I’m being picky but when has ANandy ever been concerned with details ? His mind is set and that’s that . unfortunatly too much of the GOP is composed of ANandy’s so it’s a mad chase on a merry-go-round.
charlie, it’s nonsense. See link above. Interestingly, that writer says he doesn’t want a dog in part because it isn’t green, which is kind of interesting.
I assumed it meant the carbon foot print beyond that of an average car. I would have balked at a head to head comparison.
All I know is that I am tired of polluting dog owners. I don’t think it is at all unreasonable, with the boom of socially inept adults substituting dogs for people, to apply and enforce public urination laws against dogs as we do with people. After all, dog urine is more dangerous to children than the human variety.
City folk presently live in a giant dog latrine. If an owner cannot set up a corner of their condo for their dog, then cities should tax them and build public latrines for them.
charlie, in that case I’m with you. And a lot of dog owners seem to think it’s okay to leave their poop on my property, or have their dogs mark our walls. Blech. New York has the toughest laws I know of on this, and they seem to work.
charlie - no urination stations that I can see. But note how many people can enforce in the “pooper scooper law:”
Public Health Law. Chapter 45 Of the Consolidated Laws. Article 13. Nuisances and Sanitation. Title I. General Provisions; Control and Abatement.
§ 1310. Removal of canine wastes in cities with a population of four hundred thousand or more persons and in the cities of Yonkers and Albany
Notwithstanding any contrary provision of law, rule or regulation, in cities with a population of four hundred thousand or more persons and in the cities of Yonkers and Albany, it shall be the duty of each dog owner or person having possession, custody or control of a dog to remove any feces left by his or her dog on any sidewalk, gutter, street or other public area. Any violation of this section shall constitute a violation punishable by a fine or a civil penalty of not more than two hundred fifty dollars. For the purposes of enforcing the provisions of this section, appearance tickets may be issued by sanitation officers, dog enumerators, or wardens and by any persons authorized to issue tickets for parking violations. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, in the city of New York, such appearance tickets may be returnable to the environmental control board which shall have the power to impose the civil penalties herein provided. The provisions of this section shall not apply to a guide dog, hearing dog or service dog accompanying any person with a disability, as defined in subdivision twenty-one of section two hundred ninety-two of the executive law.
^More strict than most. I’m still waiting for cities to explain why a homeless guy is arrested for public urination, but not the ten dogs that used the same alley.
Maybe it has more to do with the homeless guy exposing his privates while urinating, and that human waste spreads more diseases to humans than dog waste.
Dogs go without human covers, pants, skirts etc.
Personally, I’m sick of trying to avoid dog droppings on the sidewalks.
Dog food has to be trucked from the plant to the store. The parts of animals, corn, wheat etc has to be trucked to the plant that makes dog food. Dog food plant uses energy to make dog food. The materials used to bag or can the dog food takes energy and resource materials to produce. Some of this has to be factored into the dogs’ carbon footprint.

Horsey is one of my favorite artists, though. His style of drawing far exceeds pretty much every other editorial cartoonist out there…

Dude and dudette aren’t in NZ, and the guy in the SUV is driving off road, and across her yard, to yell at her.

Whatever would we do without ANandy to defend episteme against doxa, particularly in areas in which s/he is expert, like climatology ?…
