I bought my hand cannon at a VA gun show. Waited an hour while background check was processed. I did not see but 4-5 independents wandering around. But I did see more ATF agents. I am just observant and suspicious.

Well here I go again, probably wasteing my words and your space, but have to ask:
Since most people say they are buying a gun (when I say gun I mean handgun, I’ve had and used rifles and shotguns for hunting and sport since I was five – by the way if you really want some protection and to get someones attention the sound of 20 gage, pump shotgun being load works really, really well)
Back to my question: If you are buying a gun for protection? Protection from who, from what, what city or state do you live in where you need such protection?
Oh, home invasion, yeah hear about it and see it all the time IN MOVIES!
Here is a simple point, we have a media that looks for and loves sensational stories. We live in a country where if a young, blond, white girl disappears in Jamica it is all over the news for days.
White people in trouble that’s news.
Here is how the media covers shootings:
Young black man in the inter-city - Silence
4 month old black baby in the inter-city - Headlines then a slow fade to silence
Home invasion, family killed in the inter-city - Headlines unitl it is found that drugs were involved, then silence
White family killed in their home - Headlines, big news, until is it found they were all killed by a family member, then a few stories, then silence.
Notice how few, if any, stories about a home invasion of a white family where they killed the invaders with the gun they had in the house? It would be a big story. It might have happened and we didn’t hear about it, I mean anything can happen, but if this is a really problem, and is happening, why don’t we hear about it? Media cover-up? This Media that runs after the story and a boy in a silver balloon?
Just a reminder of a sad fact: If you have a gun in your house you increase the chance of you or someone in your family being killed by a gun.
Not a big chance, but the facts show that it is far more likely that if you have a gun you, or a member of your family will accidently kill someone with that gun, then you will kill someone that gun while protecting your family.
SO I ask again: Protection from who, from what?
Oh you bought a gun because of 9/11 and terrorist! Well that makes sense, now when they come running down our streets, firing their AK-47s you pick off.

In home defense my dog trumps your gun. My dog barking wakes me and scares away the intruder before he even tries to intrude. Two things your gun can’t do.

The NRA cretins need (psychologically speaking NEED) their guns because they have no self confidence. And since they mistake macho for masculinity, guns make them feel like really big, mean dudes! Sad…very sad…

save your guns for the MASSA”S TON-TON-MACOUTE (his peeps)…….. his well-armed civilian force is coming….he won’t succeed in turning the military on the people

The picture is very accurate. As a gun owner, and user for many years professionally as well as personally, the NRA is the GREATEST THREAT to my freedom, and guns. There may come a time when NRA does NOT have congress in their grip, and at that time those full of fear of losing their “toys” may be in the worst shape ever due to backlash from the absurd position the NRA has maintained for decades.

KEN WARREN: Close, but no cigar.
I’m an overnight cameraman in a major metro area, so I know what I speak of.
-Young black man in the inter-city - Silence
*Absolutley correct. Not only does it happen every single night, I can’t give the video away. Stations couldn’t care less.
-4 month old black baby in the inter-city - Headlines then a slow fade to silence
*Errr, close. Stations eat this up. Especially if there is compelling video i.e.: mother crying and carrying on; family members deploring the killer to give himself up; brother saying on camera he’ll find the guy and extract revenge, etc. This is a story that has legs–good for 3 nights. Then it is forgotten. Unless the perp is caught while the story is fresh in peoples mind, then you’ll get a 15-second “perp walk” or a PIO (Police Information Officer) giving a sound bite on how they found the guy. Either way, the story is over– you’ll never hear the killer got life in jail.
-Home invasion, family killed in the inter-city - Headlines unitl it is found that drugs were involved, then silence
*Headlline? Maybe, maybe not. Unfortunatley, it usually is drug related. Coverage will depend on how slow a news day it is. If there’s video, it’s good for 30-seconds. If the station can get their “correspondent” there, it’s good for a 2-minute stand up. Forgotten immediately.
-White family killed in their home - Headlines, big news, until is it found they were all killed by a family member, then a few stories, then silence.
*Sorry, but this is usually drug related, too, and rates the same coverage. The exception is when it’s a family member. Then the press will play it up just to show “hey, you all thought this was another minority killing, but here’s the twist, it wasn’t!”
The “twist” is the important element. It merits more air time on any story.
*Sorry, but home invasions happen every night. Killing the perp would NOT be a big story.. If anything, it goes against “the conventional narrative”, so it will get less coverage.
Now, if a homeowner kills a FAMILY MEMBER, because they thought it was an intruder, THAT would be a big story, because it fits in so well with “the narrative” that the news media is always telling us about. It happens, but so rarely that I haven’t covered it in 6 months on the job. My guess is a 2-day story.
One thing you failed to touch upon: there are shootings going on ALL. NIGHT. LONG. Luckily, most of these dopes are terrible shots. But whether it’s a complete miss, someone getting wounded, or a gang/drug related killing, 99% of it never makes the news. It has to be something spectacular, something compelling.
That’s why the exception to the rule is the cop. If a cop has a fender bender while chasing someone, it’s newsworthy– at least 15-sec if no video, 30-sec with video. And that’s without anyone being hurt.
An example: recently some punk robbed an auto parts store and shot the clerk in a pretty good neighborhood. He ran into the surrounding residential area where he was surrounded by police, and shot and wounded one of them, before being wounded himself.
This warrented 3 days of major coverage, including the suspect’s brother saying he had no choice but to shoot because he was surrounded, and calls of police brutality. The fact that the clerk was shot was forgotten in the reporting after day one. There was an additional day of coverage when the cop was released from the hospital, and another day of coverage when the cop got a parade and the key to the city (he was the first cop shot in the line on duty in that town in 20 years.)
Just my two cents.

Q. How many NRA members does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A. Twenty-six. One to screw in the bulb and 25 to guard the perimeter against The Government.

Churchill - I don’t know if you will see this, but thanks for the great post and information. It’s nice to have something read and then commented on. Since I am big Churchill fan I have to ask which of his many excellent quotes was he “rightabout”?

”If you’re not a liberal at 20 you have no heart, if you’re not a conservative at 40 you have no brain.” (and yes, I know this may be forklore, and I’ve heard it with other ages/descrriptions plugged in)
And thank you for reading and responding to my reply!

Thanks, I think what Churchill would say about the quote is “If I didn’t say it I should have!” See you around the sites.
