I love the Screwtape reference! C.S. Lewis would be so proud. And you know, not 10 minutes ago I hung up on one of those infernal telemarketers.

I stopped answering my house land-line phone over a year ago. It doesn’t even ring…it just goes straight to an answering machine.

Anybody who knows me just calls my cell phone.

Once a day I check the answering machine, which automatically deletes any “messages” of less than 5 seconds…and that takes care of all those automated calls, since they don’t leave messages.

I suppose one day the telemarketers will discover my cell phone number, but for now, everything is fine.

That sort of stuff is illegal where I come from, thank God. I lived in the US for 4 years of College and I agree, Hell could use a new and very special wing for these guys.

@Anthony 2816: Yeah me too. All my calls are on my cell. I have a land line for the sole purpose of ordering Pizza, as the pizza delivery folks here will only deliver to a house with a land line!

Tricky, must be a real nice neighborhood. Does the driver have a concealed carry permit too?

The reason that it is not colored is that it’s an encore ‘toon. Horsey’s strip at his site at Seattle PI.com is colored but he seems to be on vacation at the mo. since it hasn’t changed since 22 May.

A few years ago, when my local K-Mart was going out of business, I bought a gizmo called Tele-Zap for $5 (regular retail $20). When you pick up the phone, it emits a tone that tells the automated caller that the phone # is disconnected, and so gets removed from their database (which many companys share). Within a couple of months, together with the no-call list, I get ZERO telemarketing calls (except for polls).

I Love This One! The RoboCalls from the idiots telling my Auto Warranty has expired have dropped dramatically since our local NBC Affiliate reported how these lowlife Scum of the Life Telemarketers work. When I would pick up my land line and hear; “Your Auto Warranty has Expired”, I think to myself, Gee, They’re Correct since I purchased my ‘experienced’ 1993 Toyota form a Private individual for cash in June of 20, and it didn’t have a Warranty then, Wow! What Geniuses they are. But I also knew this is one Huge Rip-Off Scam.

I would always hang up as soon as I heard your auto Warranty line.

Tom Mabe, a Comedian, always manages to get the Telemarketer to hang up on him. He will run them through the wringer with pure BS.

We got on the “don’t call list” and it works. We also do not answer calls that the caller ID cannot identify. The land line is only used for broadband web access.

I try to annoy the robot callers (auto warranty, credit card rate adjustment, carpet cleaning) by hitting 1, then seeing how long I can keep the operator who answers on the line. Talk real slow, ask them to repeat everything, misunderstand what they are saying, ask irrelevant questions, mumble, etc.
