The names of the five Gitmo prisoners who were traded were listed in public on CNN and they NYT in 2011, congress knew that they were the ones to be traded. McCain is on tape from over a year ago saying it was OK to trade the five for Bergdahl.

^Flip flop John, it was late 2013, saw the tape again tonight. These Republicans really should remember they’re being taped.

I don’t think they quite grasp the idea of the internet being searchable. It isn’t so much that the Republicans have bad ideas, though they do, but that they are such hypocrites about it. And that they think we are so stupid that we won’t remember anything that they said. And that some still haven’t figured out that women vote!

Yeah, leave no soldier behind — unless Obama wants to bring him home.

If he left his base without force then we should have let him stay with them.

There was a guy, Matt Binder, documenting tweets of many who were calling for his release….and then within 3 weeks, some even within days, reversing their opinion by calling for his execution instead as a traitor.

“Here’s How Quickly Conservatives Turned on Bowe Bergdahl”

    The hypocrisy is just…bah.

That was THEN. This is NOW. Back THEN, it was imperative to rescue Bergdahl, and if trading prisoners was necessary, then the US HAD to do it. NOW, of course, it is an impeachable offence.

This “scandal” is yet another example of being against Obama regardless of what he does. It’s naked partisan politics. They don’t care about the people who get caught in the cross fire just as long as they score some political points.

Following this logic, why have we not “rescued” Snowden?

You do the “right thing” and join your countries army, you’re a “hero”. Then your sent far away into a situation few can truly appreciate and you freak out. Some develop PTSD and for some there is no Post it’s just TSD. I think we owe Bowe the opportunity to tell his own story.

Snowden will have his day. In a sense he is already imprisoned in a country where if he does “the right thing” there he will end up in a gulag. Anyway, his asylum visa runs out in a couple of months I think.

“Following this logic, why have we not “rescued” Snowden?”
Snowden chose to be there, is not being threatened and faces criminal charges if he chooses to return to the USA. He is not military personnel, but is a private citizen. And, supposedly Snowden has no new information to reveal govt secrets.

Following the logic of the majority of the posters here, it would have been OK for soldiers in the Battle of the Bulge to sneak away because they wanted to explore what was behind the German line. Get a clue people, during war you follow the rules or face punishment when you return.

If Bergdahl deserted, then he should face the appropriate punishment. What I (and others) find objectionable is that he’s being judged guilty before any judicial process.
