Once, during a muzzle-loader deer hunt I came across one. He stood on his hind legs, looked at me, sniffed, and then ambled off. I’m glad I didn’t have to shoot at him. The fastest I can re-load a flintlock is 28 seconds, and that’s not when my heart is pounding.

Yup, near the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. He was pretty big, but not nearly as big as the car I was riding in.

I have seen brown, black and grizzly bears. In 1959 I had a brown bear chase me into our cabin in Yellowstone. Two weeks later a bear dragged a little girl into the woods and park officials took notice, placing a ban on tourists feeding them.

Not yet. Black bears are roaming around southern Mo. so it’s only a matter of time. Just ask the armadillos and mountain lions.

Clearly they got where they were going. She was nagging for nothing.

Also, no, but many a raccoon. Which I would say I have a phobia aboutf but a phobia is defined as an irrational fear and there’s nothing irrational about being afraid of raccoons.

Yes. Have seen many black bears in FL and had an injured bear go right through my yard in NH. A neighboring farmer had shot it. That’s the one that scared the punk out of me. Was afraid he’d try to come onto the deck and through the sliding glass doors in the kitchen. We were all standing by the front door, just in case.
