Petey: I've got to do a project on a U.S. president and I got stuck with Rutherford B. Hayes. Mom: He was a very good president! Petey: He's not inspiring! Andre got Abraham Lincoln - he was really tall and had a great hat! Loris got Theodore Roosevelt - he had a big mustache! And he had to gnaw on furniture constantly so his teeth wouldn't grow through his skull. That's inspiring! Mom: Tell me that's not from your textbook.
It makes sense that GW treated his teeth with wood polish- since I’ve heard they were of wood. As someone who has had full dentures from my 30s, I understand obsession with keeping them as smoothe and comfortable as possible - not sure about the Teddy Roosevelt thing though and what could have caused such a belief…
