Richard Thompson's Cul de Sac, is a comic strip about the life of a pre-school girl named Alice Otterloop. It is a light-hearted comic strip centered around a four-year old girl and her suburban life experiences on a cul-de-sac with her friends Beni and Dill, older brother Petey and her classmates at Blisshaven Academy pre-school. Alice describes her father's car as a "Honda-Tonka Cuisinart" and talks to the class guinea pig, Mr. Danders. She has the typical older brother who plays jokes on her, and she contemplates ways to keep the scary clown from jumping out of the jack-in-the-box with friends.

It’s certainly no fish-slapping bear. Alice will be so disappointed.

See that lock and chain. If we hook it up at the supermarket, we’ll get our quarter back.

Dill, Fish Slapping Bears have to have someplace to put the fish, after they slap them, so they can take them home and fry them.

Shopping carts need to travel upstream annually to breed, so few of them actually make it this far.

Never wear new shoes or new boots for a hike! Wear comfortable old shoes or comfy old boots!

Get a grip on yourself, Dill! This is no time to panic. Remember your training. This is the Moment which defines the Man. Your entire life has been leading up to this.
Remember when Miss Bliss needed someone to get a box of glue sticks from the Art Supply Closet? Who stepped forward? YOU DID, Dillon Wedekind, YOU. This is what you were born for; it’s in your blood. When a shopping cart is in peril, a Wedekind laughs at danger; screw your courage to the sticking place and you’ll not fail.
