Down at the bird-table it’s survival of the fattest.
Crumb is an ever-hungry blackbird who’s always on the lookout for a free lunch. Ratty and Moggy the Third join him in the constant search for food. Along with an accident-prone gardener and his bird-friendly wife there’s never a dull moment.
The comic strip Crumb has been appearing as a daily strip for three years in New Zealand newspapers and on the Sherpa website.

Oh come on – what harm can they do?

If he forgets to feed them they could eat his plants. Animals are resourseful; feral cats in my neighborhood are eating the food in my feeder (when they can’t catch the birds).

A lot of dry cat foods are actually grain-based anyway.

A few years back we had a wild turkey that would wander the neighborhood. If anybody left dry cat food out (such as for the neighborhood strays), it’d come up and eat it.

This is the first time I’ve seen a greenhouse called a glasshouse. Is this some king of dialect thing?

Possibly the cartoonist just meant it to be an indoor porch or something (rather than a real place designed with ventilation etc). That’s how I read it; in any case, Crumb and Mini seemed to just be considering alternatives to migration ;-) As one bird lover, it’s fun to think about.
