One of these days, Mr. Pastis, the rat is going to kill you for your puns.

It’s jest a joke…

Why should you worry about the “jugular,” Pig? Don’t you hate the whole circus and all its acts and employees and dodgy practices? Why suddenly feel sympathetic towards a pathetic juggler? Why, I ask!

It is cruelty to animals; thoses are Tribbles he’s juggling with!

I never realized that the place where they dine has live entertainment.

No doubt some animals are treated better/worse than others, but keeping them caged almost all the time is cruel in itself. A right wing myth about animals rights groups is not worth repeating though.
