    Blisshaven Academy must be a first-rate pre-school, seeing that Miss Bliss is going to do story time from the Advanced Mother Goose. Calm down, Alice!

    interesting to see early richard – later on he probably would have combined the backgrounds of the first four panels into one seamless shot.

    I work with pre-schoolers twice a week, and sometimes it requires letting them get on with a good story. It’s actually great to see them figure out how to spin a yarn. Only thing is, they are never as articulate as Alice.

    Love this strip! So glad we are getting the stories all over again! I could look at them a million times and never tire of them. Lots of good thoughts to you Richard!

    My local paper published the strip through Sunday. But yesterday and today, it’s missing. At the top of the page it says:The “Cul de Sac” comic strip is no longer being produced.Is the classic strip in other papers?

    Love the book title ‘Advanced Mother Goose’ – reminded me of an ‘Archie’ comic where Big Moose is struggling over ‘Mother Goose Made Easy’.

    Rage, Alice, rage against the darkness; it is your true heritage. Then go dance on a manhole, and everything will be beautiful.

    @mabrndt:

    I actually prefer that the discontinued strips make room for new talent— after all, that’s how Cul de Sac got there! Usually the circumstances are a bit different, but really, Andy Capp? Peanuts? Time to move on, and if you want a classic fix (and I do, in some cases) here’s the web..Really, what the classic Peanuts in my paper shows me is how much Schultz lost off his slap shot in the last years. Who wants to be reminded of that?

    Well steverino, my paper keeps laying off comics so no chance for new blood at the Denver Post. The last go round happened a couple of years ago & Cul de Sac was one that was cut loose. That is why I have a subscription to GoComics so I can have as much funny as I want every day.

    Great stip,as always. I’d say, however, that Mr. Avocado needs about three toothpicks stuck into his sides to keep him from sinking. Also, I’d think he’d have longer roots by the time his shoot and leaves get up that high. Since he’s cartoon avocado, however, he can grow and prosper as is.

    I am so sad! I’m sorry that Richard Thompson could not continue creating Cul de Sac. It was my favorite strip. I am wishing Mr. Thompson sympathy with his medical problems. I especially enjoyed the strips about Petey playing the oboe. One of my best musician friends plays the oboe. I am a bassoonist and am still laughing about the school Christmas band concert!!! Great musical humor. In my local paper Cul de Sac was replaced by Mallard Fillmore. Yuck!

    Richard Thompson was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease some time ago and can no longer continue drawing the strip. A few months ago, he had fellow cartoonists guest -draw the strip for six weeks while he received treatment. He had already planned to pen his last stip in mid-September. Cul de Sac was not dropped, Thompson just could no longer continue. If you Google on his name and the strip, you will find many stories about this sad event.

    The new World of Warcraft expansion has pangolins. Alice would be pleased.
