Please. He acted like a brain-dead kid, and he got off lightly. And I’m with The J.A.M.: just try to show me a practical joke that doesn’t have a basis in cruelty toward someone.
The occasional practical joke is fine if A) it does not harm and B) you know your audience will appreciate it.A practical joke at a party is almost never a good idea because there’re way too many possible outcomes, many not good.
The BF tried to scare his 17 yr old cousin and friends at her bonfire last weekend. He trekked across .5 mile of corn field and as they were telling a ghost story he jumped out. Not one of them jumped, 3 turned around and asked “Who are you?” He took off the mask and told them they had all grown up too much and walked away muddy and mumbling.
I think Elly and John should just be glad that all they had was a pan…if there had been a gun nearby, this could have had a tragic ending. Hopefully John has learn his lesson about being a prankster!!!!
Practical jokes have gotten more than a few people killed over the years. John needed to be hit. Maybe he will think twice next time before doing someting like that.
Practical jokes can be done well and thought-out or stupidly (like this one)…an idea of a thought-out one: Where I work, we used to print out copies of the newspaper puzzles daily. One day, I took one, cut out a couple Sudoku numbers and taped them into that day’s puzzle, made a copy, and gave it to a person who was absent the first day. When she couldn’t figure it out, I gave her my puzzle from the day before for the answer and she figured out what happened.
My brother’s favorite lark was to put a nylon stocking completely over his head, thus mushing up the face to make it look really hideous. When it was the farthest thing from anyone’s mind, he’d come from out of nowhere, wrapped in a sheet with the stocking over his face and he’d go “Uuuuhhh!” and scare the snots out of you. One time he did it to our mother, and she threw a dish at him. She missed. Maybe he’d have learned something if she hit him. Or, knowing my brother, maybe not.
But yet, I’ll bet all of you laughed at “Funniest Home Videos” when the man got hit below the belly button with a golf ball?If it hurts, it’s not funny.(Would it have been funny if the subject was a lady?
John’s lucky he didn’t get a pair of broken glasses and some teeth knocked out over this silly little “joke” of his! Hopefully he’s learned a lesson . . . especially if Doris is there at the time!
Meanwhile, I can see why Doris apologized to Elly and not John (although if that had been me, I would have gone ahead and apologized to John too).
First of all, if John hadn’t been skulking around outside, looking through the windows and making faces, trying to scare all the women inside, he wouldn’t have gotten whacked with a frying pan!!!!!
Second of all, she and Elly are friends and she doesn’t want Elly to be angry at her for trying to “protect” everyone at the party from the “crazy” “nutcase” that was lurking around outside the house . . . especially when that “crazy” “nutcase” turned out to be Elly’s husband instead!!!
WOW… so many sensitive people today. Practical jokes are funny and people need to learn how to laugh. As long as you’re not physically hurting someone (which, that woman did) have a laugh & get them back!
