I find this very moving, and quite clever. I grew up with the space program — we had a lot of friends at NASA — and I’ve been a big supporter of space exploration. It was very exciting to see people on the moon, but frankly, there’s not much reason to go back any time soon, and not much reason to send people to Mars. The near-space program and especially the unmanned exploration programs are really where the action is. The census of planets is growing rapidly, and that’s going to have to change our view of our place in the universe. This is one of the biggest things in science since Copernicus.
I knew a janitor in the building where grumman built the lunar rover. i was in there after hours (as a 10 year old) and saw it for real while it was being built.
I didn’t know anyone….But I will never, ever forget the night launch in the Apollo missions. I will first repeat, ALL the astronauts should be honored. Yes, it was a team effort from thousands of people.
SWR: actually Shepherd wasn’t quite right, as many of those contractors weren’t really the “low bidder”.
And yes, Churchie, my brother’s work with a number of those contractors over the years well established that the taxpayers weren’t always getting the “best deal” available. He also worked on shuttle sub-systems, Titan 5, and many other projects for NASA and the military.
Yep, some people have not only lived real lives, so have folks they know, and knew.
You say, “Because we ALL helped!” Do you mean he didn’t build that? That in order to send one man to the moon a whole lot of people had to work together? Are you some kind of socialist?

A good test pilot, pilot, and guy.
My brother worked on the ascent engine that got them off the moon, so my fingers were really crossed for them!
ALL the astronauts showed great courage, and should be remembered for that, then, and now.
