He was just looking for a place to hang his clothes anyway, which is what most exercise machines end up being.

similar to the people who circle the parking lot looking for the closest spot available to their workout facility

Too close to the truth. There’s a third-floor gym near me, with an escalator up to the second floor (where there are retail shops, including Target), and stairs from the second to the third floor. Most of the people who go up to the gym stand on the escalator to the second floor (rather than walk up) and then walk the rest of the way, or take the elevator up. And when I worked in a place that was about half a mile from the gym, many of my co-workers would drive to the gym, park as close as possible, and then use the treadmill. In my first job out of school, I lived about 0.5 miles from work, and one of my co-workers lived near me, a little closer to work than I was. Even though she was an avid hiker and one of her tasks was to oversee the city’s trail system, she still drove to work every day. The absurd laziness of people knows no bounds.
