In the two Peanuts strips above, by 1961, poor Linus had already been hit by Lucy for seven years. One of the many perils of slow comic-strip aging. Another example is that Calvin’s parents are still raising a six-year-old after 27 years.
Yesterday I posted two early Peanuts strips to go with the Calvin and Hobbes “Hamster-Huey-Bedtime-Story”strip, but they disappeared later in the day, so I’m posting them again below. The first strip is from the very early days, when Charlie Brown sometimes said, “Great Scott,” rather than “Good Grief.”
Hi Denver Broncos (a.k.a. Snoopster) I’ve been extremely busy. Finding time to post on this site is just like…….. well…….. pulling teeth.Have a good year at school. Break a leg.No……….. wait……………
@Veridian: Wow. Now there’s some Peanuts trivia that I wasn’t aware of. Really makes you stop and think. For Puddleglum: “Wow. Now there’s some Peanuts trivia of which of the existence of which I was unaware that I was unaware. To which I was oblivious, even (Snagglepuss).”
@Liunux0s: Seems like maybe there was a technical problem yesterday. I remember once before when we had a day where perhaps 15 or 20 comments disappeared, and they weren’t objectionable.By the way, flagging isn’t supposed to automatically delete comments. It just brings them to the attention of someone at GoComics, and then GoComics decides whether or not the comments are inappropriate.
@JohnnyDiego: Thanks. By the way, Charlie Brown was named after a real person. He was a friend of Charles Schulz at Art Instruction Schools in Minneapolis. Calvin and Hobbes were also named after real people – a couple of Bill Watterson’s “old” friends.
Hobbes,I have no idea how you do what you do…but could you please pay that Peanuts where Snoopy goes learn from yesterday, look to tomorrow, live for today, nap this afternoon. All I can do is tip my cap,and cheer,,RE
Maybe you’re not supposed to post other strips in the comments section? Like you can only post Peanuts strips in the Peanuts comments and not in C and H? I’m not saying it makes “sense”, but it might be a rule.
My favorite part of the strip is Mom in the second panel. The way she’s standing with her hands on her hips is good observation, and expressed nicely in a few deft strokes.
As I recall, Watterson’s original plan for this strip was for Calvin to be a younger brother to an older boy. The morphing Hobbes was going to be a sideline to the strip. Had this plan gone through, Calvin was probably going to be the one being beat up all the time.
Sometimes posters accidentally delete their own comments if they are scrolling on a touch screen, and they happen to touch “delete” on one of their own comments.
Moms can see what would happen if they got a mean little sister for Calvin,Dad get the operation .the swelling will go down the pain go away. You cant have another Calvin ,boy or girl.
Our older son was dominated by his older sister in that she wanted to run his life in every way and it rarely came to blows. But when we had a younger son join the family, the older son eventually turned on the younger son in just the way Calvin desires. Painful to see. Sibling rivalries, birth order, pecking order—all kinds of classic family relations all rolled into one! We hope that they will mostly outgrow all of it!
Thanks for the comments, guys, but……….. she….she didn’t make it. CPR didn’t go well, and the dog’s heart stopped, so she got put down. When I get the ashes, they’re staying in my room till I die. Thanks, guys. ;) Thanks for the comments.
boomonk says:at 11:32 am What if Calvin got a sister? He’d want to protect her?
I doubt it. I have two older brothers. They either expected I be the third brother (I’m a girl), beat me up, sat on me, farted on me, or made empty threats to my boyfriends (once I was old enough to date). :\
My son was always a good kid, but his younger sister (21 months) was forever beating him up since she was 2. The only time they weren’t fighting was she was beating up on the boy bullies (that tried to bully him) – through high school.
My brother-in-law always said he wanted 3 kids, so he could have “one of each.” Only got 2 though. Same with me. Wif said she’d get fixed if we had a 3rd, but didn’t have any more even without protection for last 17 years, so we’re OK with a boy and girl. Though I’m willing to trade in the boy … any takers?

It’s Calvin’s cheerful look in panel 2 that sells this strip!
