For some reason, when they grow up, it sounds more like whining……….

I think it starts WAAAY before you’re born…It starts before you were conceived.In fact, before your grandparents were conceived…

But like Varnes said, the crying babies are awfully good readers…

Does that mean the smart or educated ones start whining earlier about the inequity….and the ones who can’t read can stay blissfully ignorant for a while?

That would explain some things.

Pity the babies that were fashion statements and not a lifestyle change.

Pretty sure life was unfair even before that point, too.

Ah, the question of fairness. When my kids say, “That’s not fair!” what they usually mean is, “I don’t like it.” However, there is a question of fairness that means something real in the world. In a 1-mile race, for example, it is unfair to give one competitor a half-mile lead over the others. In the early days of this country, we considered it unfair for the nobility to claim special privileges simply because they were born into the nobility. We felt that each person, given an equal start in life, ought to have a chance to make their own way. There is no such thing, of course, as an equal start in life. When one child is born into a poor family – even a hardworking poor family – they don’t have the chance for dance classes, ballet, gymnastics – even swimming lessons. They don’t have the opportunity to go to the better schools (or tutors, if they need them). They don’t get access to the most advanced technology. And they don’t get the networking others grow up with. Is that fair? No, of course not. We live today in a world very little different from the European peerage model we eschewed back then. Our wealthiest are, for all intents and purposes, our nobility, enjoying advantages most can’t even dream of – because they are born into it, not because they earned it. Yes, some brilliant and ambitious poor make it up the ladder – but they have to be more brilliant and more ambitious than their wealthier counterparts. Frankly, most people just aren’t that smart, even if they are hardworking.So…fair? It ain’t going to happen in this country. If you want fair, try Denmark. Their gap between wealthiest and poorest is surprisingly small.

Perhaps there’s more meaning in the term “EXIT” than was intended?

Well said, Night-Gaunt49! I would add that too often, people who say life is unfair are usually acting in unfair ways or excusing unfair behavior.

Romeny’s family worked to earn theirs, Kerry married into his, and the Kennedy Clan (MA family) made theirs in bootlegging and politics, Bushes made theirs in Oil, cattle and politics. No big difference. They all seem to grab what they want and leave the rest to try to get theirs.

Of course life is unfair. Despite the veneer of “equality,” it’s still very much a world of the strong (read: rich, powerful, amoral, unethical) ruling over the weak in the States and other countries. It’s like the zombies from “Land of the Dead” (how do you italicize now?): those pretty fireworks keep them nice and distracted as the pawns of the rich steal everything from under their noses. Substitute “fireworks” for “reality TV, tabloids, and celebrity scandals” and it’s pretty much the same thing in real life.

Life WILL be unfair if you go there

I’d put “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Exit Here” but since they can’t read, it makes no difference either way.

Well it is better to warn them early and let them get it out of their system.

They’re all crying so much because they are tightly swaddled. They want to wave their arms and flail their legs…they want to be FREE!

When did they stop putting all the newborns in a ward like that, does anyone know?

You cried too when you were violently forced from a warm, dark comfortable, cozy space into a cold bright world with no physical connection to Mom.

If they’d only bonded, maybe they’d be fair to everyone. but that’s nurture, not nature.

Seriously, the theory of evolution, severely twisted by Huxley, has been used for its survival of the fittest doctrine to suit capitalist cut-throating. Hardly an ideal to be spouted against unfairness.

Oh, and the fact we will NOT do anything is the ORIGIN of unfairness.

Life i always fair, if your parents or ancestors were “fairly” rich. Other “fairness” may come when someone WITH wealth or position, gives someone without, a “hand up”. A friend was on the verge of bankruptcy, when a guy helped him get a new start. It was because of HIS hard work and intelligence though, that the then became a millionaire, several times over, and the n HE “paid it forward”.- That’s “fair”.

“Bootlegging” by the way was not only hard work, but dangerous at the time, as fictionally depicted in “Boardwalk Empire”. Interesting that it was “puritanical interests” that made it both profitable, and dangerous! Today’s “religious right” are again out to take control, and THEY are the ones looking for the profits. Not much “fairness” in their “do unto others”.

Talk about unfair. My sister’s husband left her with 5 kids and no income!

We are born naked, wet and hungry…and then things get worse.

“Survival of the fittest” doesn’t mean that only the strongest survive – it means that only the ones most suited to the environment will thrive.

I’m ashamed it took a comic to find this out !

The only 2 consistencies in life were death and taxes … until we were taxed to death.
