Not even funny. Future? Schools in the US already have metal detectors.

After 9/11 and even before the shoe bomber, someone predicted that the only truly safe flight is one with the passengers naked and handcuffed to their seats. It hasn’t come to that, so probably won’t at the movies, but neither is TSA operation any better than “security theater”, rather than true security. The same will doubtless be true of whatever security measures are adopted for movies.

But after all, Mr Holmes didn’t buy a ticket anyway, did he? Maybe the solution is to booby-trap emergency exits. Or no, that wouldn’t work . . .

Are you saying that your face kills? A full face mask can be hiddden in a pocket. As for door alarms, there is no easy answer as gunshots should be as alarming as a bell or other "alarm. What would keep someone from waiting for the movie to end and killing the first one out the door, stepping in and opening up?

Edmund Burke said it well." If the laws are not written in the hearts of men, then there are not sufficient constables who could enforce them."

“Fire exits” are supposed to be alarmed, but the exit he blocked open, after buying a ticket and going in, then out the exit to get his weapons, may NOT have been under fire codes a “fire exit”.

When, 10years ago, I went to my high school 40th reunion, I was shocked at the fencing, gates, security, and yes, metal detecting wands of ARMED security guards at the school. It was greater security than at many jails, and prisons, I’ve visited. It was very, creepy, and a “sign of the times” .

What’s “interesting” about all the security, is the constant reminder that even the most rigid “police state”, is STILL INSECURE! Terror just plays on the fear that calls for all the security, and makes folks even MORE paranoid!!

Maybe they can just have everyone do the Hokey Pokey as they enter.

“In 1912 every kid out west learned to shoot from his dad, in order to keep the wolfs and dingos down (darn, I sound like a real American, don’t I, Yeeeh-Haw…).”

That would have to be WAY out west, since dingos are Australian. :-)

Either that, or the American kids had access to ICBM’s (no doubt the NRA is hard at work to make that a reality).

    Just a thought….

More staff (generally, in all workplaces) would help somewhat. I’m not saying it would solve the problem of murders per se but all this discussion about alarmed doors….hey, there used to be ushers in cinemas. Now my local cinema is closed and the multiplex has removed most of its staff – just buy a ticket online and scan it in to get into the right screen – no one notices anything about who goes in or out really.Employ people. Let people work, not machines. Solves many social problems.

You are the Professor, and you can’t get my point? (your posts today seem a little uncharacteristic of you, you feeling alright?)

My point is they were probably paid a sub par wage, even for Pakistani standards. Although, the contractor was able to find willing labor to get the job done. Unlike the US where the Lib’s have to have a min wage. Thus causing an employer to find alternative ways of getting the job done, while hiring the least amount of people.

You being in education, would not understand the way business is done. I am not being critical of you, just you have not had that kind of experience. In my experience, I could not replace a human with a backhoe. None of my employee’s could be replaced with machines. So when a fabricated min wage went up, so did my prices. The consumer ALWAYS pay’s or the business closes.

Boils down to one apparent fact …. there is NO EFFECTIVE DEFENSE against the particular brand of insanity that drives individuals to inflict death and injury upon random victims. WHOA! Did someone say “thought police”?

Actually, I figured you were probably going for coyotes. By 1912, wolves had mostly been pushed out of the lower 48, which led to an explosion in the coyote population, and coyotes have proven much harder to eradicate (bwah-hahahaha!).

In the old movies, the heroic GI’s could identify the crafty Nazi spies by demanding they knew who was the 1938 World Series MVP or somesuch. Alas, though I am native here and to the manner born, sports trivia is beyond my ken (unless you ask me about the 1984-85 Chicago Bears).
