This is a great cartoon and I would love to see an NBC spin on this. They still haven’t apologized and continue to insist that they haven’t done anything wrong.
NBC, in the past, had a good show line up and excellent news coverage. Now they have neither and are scrambling to produce anything relavent.
The cartoon is based on a quote which was also incorrectly excerpted in Lester’s cartoon today, and all over the Breitbart and Fox distortion machine. Obama said “Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” Romney used only the last two sentences, which totally changes the meaning.
Trash like this is beyond the pale. Mr. Luckovich has left the arena of debating an opinion entered the asylum of fools using children’s tactics to promote their ideology by attacking an individual’s character. I’ve been a Democrat since JFK but the schoolhouse trash and character assassination coming from the party makes the Republicans look like angels.
“Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”He right. Buisiness didn’t build roads, or give us the internet. Government did. Context matters. Or do the righties here believe that romney dosn’t care about the poor, and likes to fire people.
Don’t forget the ad still playing that credits Obama with saying what John McCain said about the economy. He was quoting McCain! Reeps are desperate. They have nominated an empty suit and are trying to keep people from noticing. re;ease the crakin, er, tax returns Lord Mitty.
First, starting out by denigrating me personally detracts from and debases any merit your argument may have had. As to the quote, I’ve read the whole transcript, and while the ideologues on the right are blowing it out of proportion for effect, the gist does point to our CIC embracing the collective and suggesting that hard work is overvalued. A position I heartily disagree with.

“If the “buisiness” was not there to pay the tax then those roads would go to pot”So, you’re going to try and give buisness credit for what the government did? How is that any different from what fox claims Obama did? Obamas quote, when in context, was CORRECT. Government invested in these programs that buisness now take advantage of for profit. And this is not new, even going back to when the transcontinental railroad was created in the 1800’s (thanks to the government) that helped open up trade ALL across the country. And BTW, none of this would exsist if it wern’t for TAXES and GOVERNMENT SPENDING. Somthing the teabaggers (their name for themselves) fail to grasp.
I’m sorry you are unable to express a position and must descend to labeling an idea you don’t understand. Someday you may be capable of participating in reasoned discourse. Perhaps you’ve been unduly influenced by television programming.
Perhaps you have a problem with english. I gave my opinion of the cartoon. You called me a name and pointed to an interpretation in another post. I disagreed with the interpretation in the other post and gave mine. You’ve completely forgotten that I found the cartoon distasteful and below the cartoonist. If you keep the premise and swap the subjects while using an outrageous example, as he did, I would still be insulted. The extreme presentation is insulting and the cartoon is not designed to be “editorial” but is a hit piece. If the roles were reversed it would still be a hit piece. Period.
Yikes! These comments are getting w-a-a-a-y too personal..I’ve watched the clips and in my judgment Romney used an exact quotation from Obama’s speech, without distortion. .That said, I think Obama’s speechwriter needs to be fired. By inserting just a couple of words, the point of the speech would have been indisputable: .“If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that [by yourself.] Somebody else [helped you make] that happen.”.I think that was the intent of the speech, taken in context. It’s a sentiment with which I whole-heartedly agree..In my past life I worked with Contract Negotiations, and I always made an attempt to word the contract to say what was intended, so that quarrels wouldn’t erupt because of ambiguous wording..All this hoopla reminds me of Goldwater: “Why don’t you report what I mean, instead of what I say?” (Or something like that.)
“Hey I mean it is not like Obama has modified things in the past to make himself look better, http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/05/16/white-house-under-fire-for-adding-obama-policy-plugs-to-past-presidents-bios/”-————————————————————————-I went to the site you referenced and read it thoroughly. I took therefrom this quotation:.“No biographies have been altered,” a White House official told Fox News. “We simply added links at the bottom of each page to related whitehouse.gov content, which is a commonly used best practice to encourage people to browse more pages on a site.”.One needs to note that the site in question is this:.http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents.That is an official White House website..A great number of websites (maybe close to 100%?) provide links to additional information for interested persons..Why shouldn’t the White House provide informative links?.This is not a practice that has “modified things in the past” as you state; it is a common practice that allows viewers/readers to make connections with more information, contrary to what Fox News and you might have us believe.
And if it were not for taxes, and spending, we would still be in a “pre-railroad” state where people on the other end of the country, may as well have been on the moon. Thats what you and the teabaggers (their name) don’t seem to get.BTW, buisness isn’t the only one who pay taxes (and in many cases, buisness dosn’t pay taxes at all). Its the people who who pay the taxes.
“Within context” of the entire statement, is important. INFLECTION in a speech doesn’t translate in print, and that TOO IS IMPORTANT! Listening to the inflection from Mitt, can be disturbing at times. It often make me think of Shakespeare and Marc Antony’s speech “defending” Brutus.
I thank you and jgrizich alike for trying to reach accommodation. You show strength, courage, and mental security by doing so. Trying to understand one another is best for the country.
this is a good rendering of both Obama and mitt. I’m impressed by your talent! Of course Mitt is doing what he does best.. putting other words in fake contexts, lying, cheating, slandering, and Being hate-filled.
“In a June 28, 1985 speech Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multi-millionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule.
Did we ask what Obama wants us to know about Reagan?"————————————————————————First, I will confess that I do not recall seeing that quotation (or your other reference) on the site you mentioned:http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/05/16/white-house-under-fire-for-adding-obama-policy-plugs-to-past-presidents-bios/.I do not recall seeing it on the site that was linked from that one:http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents.If it is a true quotation, it came from whitehouse.gov – which domain belongs to the White House – and did not appear on the official biographical site, nor did it alter the biography..I thought I made this clear in my previous post..It is only logical that the President will use the official website to promote his programs and decisions, even if the basic idea might have come from a former Republican President..I am beginning to think that you buy lock, stock & barrel whatever is presented to you by the propaganda machine to which you subscribe, rather than looking for objective material that is available to everyone..Keep in mind that I obtained the information above by first going to the site that you provided..One does need to have skills in reading and comprehension to arrive at objective conclusions.
Ignore may be too strong a word. It’s quite possible pirate is not aware of the incidents you’re alluding to. Tell us what those “lies” were (in detail) and then we can judge whether they have merit or not.

Well, given that NBC doctored a video about Romney, I suppose it’d be “just deserts” if it happened in return.
