It’s little moments shown in these panels that make Arlo and Janis so endearing. Power outages and reminisces of childhood combining for a smile and a recall of a distant memory, things those of ‘our’ generation can relate to so easily. Check out the Burl Ives version on YouTube, probably the one I heard the most.

I believe the lyrics are from “The Wonderful Toy”. I remember the Chad Mitchell Trio doing it.

The clock in our Town and Country Chrysler is such a pain to set that we often go a whole time-change (EST, EDT) without changing it. As for “its” and “it’s,” even prissy-perfectionist I commit a typo on it now and then. If you use the word as a possessive like “his,” don’t use an apostrophe – there’s no apostrophe in “his.” “It’s” is a contraction for “it is.” That little apostrophe takes the place of the " i."

Most everything else has a battery back-up. When the power goes out and comes back on it has to reboot. (I think)

What’s a VCR?

Speaking of clocks, I still have my grandfather’s clock. It is well over 100 years old. I had it restored about 20 years ago. It is hanging on my kitchen wall, keeps good time and the pendulum swings bringing back great memories when it hang on my grandparent’s wall.

Most people don’t use VCR’s anymore.

The grandfather clock song was part of a windup Fisher Price toy I had. It was amazing when I heard the original song with lyrics on an old song radio show one time.

A fair number of people have heard the song “My Grandfather’s Clock,” though I daresay not very many under a certain age. Not so well-known, however, is that long-case clocks had not been known as “grandfather clocks” until the poem was written, and the concept was born.

Ah, I haven’t heard this song in years! The song is actually called “My Grandfather’s clock”. the Marvelous Toy is another song I haven’t heard in years, but a totally different one. Johnny Cash did a version of My Grandfather’s Clock.Marvelous Toy has the refrain "It went “Zip” when it moved, and “Bop” when it stopped,And “Whirrr” when it stood still.I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will."it was one of my all time favorite songs when I was younger. as a child i had a cassette tape with both songs on it.

I had VCRs that would reset themselves until the switch to digital TV. The time signal produced by the PBS station is no longer on the analog feed that my cable company produces.

The nice thing about tall case clocks is that they work when the power goes out.

My. At her will be 90 in a couple of weeks. His clock is slowing down.
