I dunno, Ted. I think I like you better when you throw rocks at the corporations. Pols at the federal level tend to run bought and sold. Ranting at them won’t change that. As long as there are puppeteers, there will always be puppets. What do you want from this election, anyway? Everybody stay home? Write in Lizard People? Blow up the paperless voting machines? I know, I know. Tough choices.
What is important to the people, is not important to BHO. He has demonstrated this time after time in the last 3+ years. Rall (known as a liberal) understands the urgency much better than the president does.
This complacency from BHO will lose him the reelection.
We Americans demand immediate change, instant gratification, and complete success. Our common prayer has always been, “Lord give me patience, and give it to me NOW!”
Maybe Rall would feel better if Obama came right out and said, “I should have fear mongered the recession in ‘08 the way Bush fear mongered 9-11. Then we’d have single payer health care, and a stimulus package big enough to really get the economy going. Instead, I thought I could change the way Washington works by engaging with Republicans. Sorry I was so stupid. Please vote for me, because as dissapoiinted you are in me, Romney will take us right back to the idiocy that preceded my term.”
Golly gee willikers! I post about what Obama should say and he says,“My expectation was that we would see more cooperation,” the president said. “But having said that, the basic notion that we are not Democrats or Republicans first, we’re Americans first, and that most of the problems that we face are solvable, not in some ideological way, but in a practical, common sense, American way, that I believe as much as ever. And I think so do the American people.”In a sane America, Republicans would be trying to steal the credit for Obamacare out from under Obama. It was their idea after all.
What, four years ago? Are my views not allowed to evolve over four years? My point is not to defend Obama so much as it is to note that we have a systematic problem that limits the options of those in office at the federal level. It’s about campaign funding and perhaps more sinister things. But Obama had a good track record previously, where as Bush was just a glorified frat boy.
Apparently most of you weren’t in the U.S. in 2001-2008 . . . but I was, and for 8 years I sat and watched Bush and Dick drive this country into the ground. Month after month, year after year. When I complained about it to the people around me, I was told “Support our President!” or “Clinton was a sleeze bag!”Finally, in 2008, with two wars burning, millions of worthless mortgages, retirement savings wiped out . . . Americans realized the depth of the hole they were in.We’re still climbing out. Will be for a few more years. It is absolutely MIND-BOGGLING to me that ANYONE who lived through those years would say – for any reason – “Hey! Let’s put the Bush and Dick crew back in charge!”
While I can relate to this strip, let’s not forget that President Obama did attempt a reasonably effective Keynesian approach to the economic crisis, but was blocked in large part by the Republicans who were fixated on the deficit and held extensions to long term unemployment benefits hostage to extensions of the Bush tax cuts for the rich.
Even the Obama stimulus was 30% tax cuts, which are an ineffective stimulus, because of Republican demands.
There’s no question that the message of the strip is true, but heaven help us if the Romney/Ryan budget with tax cuts for the rich and cuts in Social Security and Medicare for the rest of us is adopted.

Good thing you don’t work for the city of Scranton, where they don’t just talk about hard times — they create them!

Guess not being responsible for having a paying business is why GE doesn’t pay taxes.

Rall, if you’re not working hard enough to pay the debts/costs you incur, I suggest you’re maybe a little lazy, not patient.
