Note to all the nimrods out there, who automatically assume ( emphasis on the first syllable ) that I was singling out their particular political party for divine retribution. I AM APOLITICAL and a registered No Party Preference ( Independent ) voter.But I do live in South Florida and the GOP convention is going to be one colossal PITA , so that was my obvious first choice. What goes on in Charlotte can stay in Charlotte.Have we gone so far down the tubes that we can no longer take a joke ? Are our political skins so thin that we can’t take a little satire or irony ? We have become a pretty SAD country when we can’t laugh at ourselves.

it doesn’t make sense, a lot of you are saying you hate the other party and wish them dead and say that’s okay because the other party is ruining the world. It’s not either party that is ruining america, its the people who areblaming the other party for the problems we face today and not looking in the mirror realizing that this bigoted hate is what is ruining the world. No one deserves to die for their political or religious beliefs. The people who deserve to die are the people who kill, rape, molest, others in cold blood. As the old adage goes, you must be the change you wish to see in the world. In many cases the only way to bring about change is to work with people of different opinions and come up with a solution that benefits everyone.

I feel I must weigh in.(That is quite ironic coming from a guy with my girth.) I am Christian, through and through. I do believe that God will “thin the herd” in his own time. However, if you think God favors one party or another, you presume much. For you who tend to the far right and claim God’s word for all you do, Please refer tothe fifth chapter of the Book of Acts of the Apostles. In this book it is tol how the early Christians lived communally and shared everything they had. There was a couple named Ananias and Saphira who withheld what they had and LIED about it(think offshore banks). They were cut down by God for lying. We have lived so greedily that God is now reserving judgenent for that “Great Day of the Lord”.

OK, so you think I have let the left slide. Wrong! Two thousand years ago the Apostle Paul wrote that God’s wrath would be turned towards those who turn against the “natural” use of the opposite sex. That, in addition to the commandment that we not murder, is enough to get yourselves on the wrong side of God Almighty.

I usually try to stay put and not get involved as deeply in these discussions. I usually urge everyone to take a more moderate stance. Not today, the hate and anger that is beginning to come out in this forum is absulutly disgusting. You all, with a few exceptions, should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. Get it together people. We can get through this bad time if we pull together as a nation or we can all go down he toilet of history.

Why do humans call an act of nature an act of God? MY invisible friend(God) may allow these things to happen as they are things influenced by the behaviors of man and nature, but the acts of God I see are people helping people, or someone taking a moment to say a kind word to another. Love is an act of God, and judgement will be an act of God, but we and the planet do all the thinning of the herd without any help at all from divinity.Respectfully,C.

The English empire was larger by far, the Russian Empire was larger, one could argue that the Soviet Union and the and PRC are way larger. Not to mention the fact that the USA is not an empire. As usual, your magniloquent verbosity and grandiose erudition is superfluous (BTW – that was a gentle tease :-).What I understood you to say is that the Bible is a book of myths more influenced by those who penned it than actually being the word of God. Hopefully, that’s not too simplistic a reiteration…Jesus stated the Hebrew texts were God’s word (John 17:17), and referred to them often. Shall I offer you some evidence from within that it is the word of God?

Wiley, please forgive those who turned this cartoon political…But again, ultimately it’s God’s fault…Didn’t you ever just want to tell God where to go?

Man wanted to ‘rule’ himself. God told them it wouldn’t work, that man ultimately dominates man to his injury. Was God wrong? Does it appear that man is doing a good job ruling himself, and taking care of his home? Now that EVERY possible type of man made government has been attempted, (democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, etc. ad nauseum) we can see the results. On His timetable He will clean house, not destroy the house, just evict the faithless tenants, and allow those He chooses to remain. IMHO.

God doesn’t need to, the big tycoons and robber barons will thin the herd just fine, if R& R get elected. The poor will die off, and the middle class will be the new poor.

I really don’t think you can “balance out” wickedness. Yahweh promised the land of the Canaanites to the descendents of Abraham. Oh, by the way, the Canaanites are thoroughly evil and must be utterly destroyed. How very convenient for Yahweh and the Israelites to have justification for genocide.

Perhaps the Israelites were more moral than the Canaanites? But god-given law, as shown in Exodus 21 – 23, doesn’t paint a pretty picture. Slavery seems to be fine, selling your daughter into slavery seems fine, cursing your parents gets you stoned to death, it’s okay to almost beat your slave to death, kill “witches”, et cetera. Deuteronomy is no better, what with beating disobedient children and stoning people for minor offenses (even if innocent).
