    Until Robes Pierre came along, followed by emperor Napoleon. So much for their revolution. Took quite a while to get rid of their monarchies.

    You need to read about the French Revolution. It was nothing like the American Revolution.

    Chikuku: Both were violent. Both influenced Marx to believe that a violent revolution followed by a dictatorship of the formerly oppressed was the only way to gain freedom (Alien and Sedition Acts in US, Reign of Terror in France). Both are a constant battle to expand freedom and to return to dictatorship.
