I think Phoebe is looking for something along the line of Bogey or a noir setting. Unicorns don’t work well with gritty. At least Marigold doesn’t do gritty.

The “Shield of Boringness” would come in handy for a private dick.

Somehow I don’t think “CSI: Unicorn” is going to catch on…

The mystery is Dana’s trouble drawing the spiral on the horn. It’s not in the second panel at all. I apologize for being nitpicky.

There are grimdark MLP fanfics, but I doubt the cartoonist likes them.

The spiral absence in the second panel is a legitimate artistic choice.

I’m afraid Phoebe doesn’t know that one.

They need to watch the T.V. show “Busytown Mysteries” with my son – he’s sooo into this Richard Scarry cartoon (tho I think it’s a little old for an almost 3-year-old) I have the song stuck in my head – agggggg!

I’ve been enjoying this strip, it’s a good one. But I’m hoping to see it branch out a little with some more characters.Or maybe a little more pratfallish stuff; like on the banner, Phoebe holding the bat with the “uh-oh” look on her face and Marigold with the baseball impaled on her horn (!). Some action kind of like that. Shake things up a bit.

I have the perfect mystery for them to solve, and it’s not only a legitimate one, but one that is a perfect blend of their talents and natures:
