It is very much in character for Dick Tracy to take patriotic note of our nation’s birthday! HAPPY 4th OF JULY to all involved with Team Tracy and to the fans of the new and vastly improved adventures of Dick Tracy!—But I am on tenterhooks to get back to the showdown at Mr Crime’s lair, too!

Okay, I’ve had enough. You simply have to stop Joe. If you make one more piece of art that demands to be framed and placed on my bedroom wall, I’m going to go broke.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!!!!!!GOD Bless America – - – - - – - – - and success to the Army!--That being said – - – the actual correct salute for Tracy would be to remove his hat, hold his right hand over his heart, with his hat over his left shoulder. But what the heckle.

This is a first for the Dick tracy strip, isn’t it? To my knowledge, Chester Gould never did anything like this, but today’s strip is absolutely brilliant! Joe Staton has never been better on art. Love this guy! And love America as well. Happy 4th to everyone.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone..A doubly special day for me. It’s also the anniversary of my first date with my wife, Katy. Two years later, it was the day I proposed. So, in a sense, I celebrate the LOSS of my independence. But no man gave it up more willingly.

But why is Tracy saluting? Inasmuch as he is wearing civilian clothing, should he not have removed his hat and held it over his heart as the approved sign of respect for the national flag? Traditionally and historically, the saute evolved from the act of raising the visor of one’s armored helmet to reveal the face and show that one is a friend or ally. Consequently, has not the act always been appropriate only for a person in a military uniform? (Yes, I know that the act has evolved to include a person in pretty much any sort of uniform such as police, Boy Scouts, and firefighters, but I really can’t quite define Tracy’s trench coat and hat as a uniform.)

We welcome the return of VistaBill

Whose life it seems is one big thrill

And though he was tempest tossed

His voice to us has not been lost

    Through wind and rain

    And strum und drang

He returns now to the fold

With many harrowing tales to be told

Welcome back VB, your just in time

To see the demise of Mister Crime

We pause now in our story

To give a tribute to Old Glory

To the founding of this nation

We are filled with feelings of elation

So eat a dog, drink some ‘ade

And kick back in the shade

And tonight, when colors fill the sky

To our country, raise your glasses high.

Oh, what’s that, Communist? You’re just a little too busy on this July 4th Freedom America day to admire the US flag? Dick Tracy would like to have some words with you. He’s in the middle of a bloody shootout with Mr. Crime’s gang, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have time to find an enormous American flag and salute it! Those explosions behind him aren’t fireworks; they’re actual gunfire. Dick Tracy won’t let mortal danger get in the way of his patriotism!

It’s hard to see looking at the colored version of this daily but check out the black and white version at ComicStripNation.com to truly appreciate Joe’s amazing line work on the stripes of the flag.
