And there were some “close calls” when they were about to share a kiss before Quill left for L.A. around Christmas time. But, they experienced “Tiffany-is Interrupting-us” as she snagged his arm and said, “Got to go, now!” or something along those lines.

After having read most of the comments here, I have made this observation – No one seems to have caught on to the fact that Quill said that he would be the kisser (and thus, Luann would be the kissee), but Luann is the one that leans in towards Quill to act more as the initiator. Only after that do we see Quill leaning in to Luann. What does that say to you?
Also, I wholly agree that “Luann’s Zit” is an idiot that is trying to drum up attention. And has succeeded quite well.
Well, Luann finally uncrossed her legs. Good cliff hanger, now time to move on to Gunther & Rosa also feeling the heat of summer….or, Knute & Crystal. Just stay away from that sleezy Weenie World and its cast of freaks.

You shocked us all to the point of incredulity by assuming that sweet, gentle Quill, who actually waited for permission to kiss Luann, and who yesterday was so passive that some thought he might be gay or asexual, might be a rapist. If anyone in this strip is a potential rapist, it is that slimy guy who was aggressive to Rosa. But for everyone else, it was clear that the story was not going the way you both feared and hoped.Yes, there are some sweet talkers with bad intentions. I’d be VERY surprised if they’re even kissing in that last panel due to the position of Quills legs and feet – it doesn’t appear that he’s even facing Luann at that point.
I so agree with your response to @luann’s zit. NO way would Greg have Luann get raped or fondled by Quill. Teens read the comics too and the message just might be that BOTH want to wait until 1) their engaged to be married at some point down the line or 2) God forbid.. wait until they’re married. Virginity isn’t something that you can lose & then get back once you realize it was a huge mistake..
I like the way Evans handled this. There is implied sexual content all right, but it is implied that the sexual content is in the minds of the characters.
Sex is not dirty. Those kids are just making out; teenagers will do this. They do a lot more too, but I doubt you will see that sort of action in this strip. Now that they have enjoyed a kiss, it opens up the possibility Quill will be summoned back to the antipodes leaving Luann to deal with the complexities of teenage heart break.
Next week on Luann… Mother and daughter talk, or possible Toni and LuAnn talk. Might get some info on the Toni-Brad situation, as LuAnn asks "Toni, hoe did you knoe when it was time to have sex with Brad?’ and Toni answers. “SEX, we’ve never had sex”.
Does anyone else notice the purple arc in the background of the panels? It looks like they had a moment of purple passion, and now they’re basking in the warmth of friends who’ve made the transition to really being a couple.
Well, I see not everyone believes luanne’s zit. Let me just say that I have served on three juries: two convictions, one acquittal; one harassment trial, one 4th degree sexual assault and one DUI. I had always wondered how jurors could tell who was lying or telling the truth but then knew for sure that at least three people were lying through their teeth, hence one of the convictions. In the second case, there was a reliable witness and the poor sap had had the poor judgment to grope the bottom of a female officer right in the police station. In the acquittal case we believed the accused at least to the point of a reasonable doubt. Please, guys, give luanne’s zit at least the benefit of a reasonable doubt.

Before the kiss, there needed to be a conversation: Either 1) “we won’t take any clothes off” or 2) “if we later decide to have sex, we need to first talk about STDs and contraception. I’m not (or I am) on the pill. Do you have a condom? They work 80% of the time, if they’re good quality and put on right.”
I know I’m old fashioned, but I hope they progress modestly and even though I would enjoy seeing Tiffany steam over this, it doesn’t need to get “too” intense!

@Wesley-B and Luann’s Zit…so long as you both are suffering from the trauma that others have inflicted upon you, you are unintentionally allowing the pervs to maintain control over your lives. You must try, somehow, to take your life back and go forward in a positive manner. Life is too short as it is and you both sound like lovely people; negativity is leeching all the joyfulness out of your lives. Please make it a goal to find enough happiness in every single day that it obliterates all the ugly stuff from entering your minds.
I think Quill and Luann are simply savoring the experience of having had the courage to actually carryout their first grownup kiss. Having gone steady at that age for about two years, I can attest to the fact that you can do a lot of heartfelt kissing without going into forbidden territory. It takes mutual respect and self-control, though…two qualities today’s teens don’t bother to cultivat.

The road from first ever kiss to first “roll in the hay”, is generally quite long. Luann is a level-headed girl, and she has gotten quire enough excitement from that kiss. Quill is a gentleman. He respects Luann and won’t push anything. Many months from now they may finally go “all the way”, but if they do, it will be a beautiful act of love, NOT rape.
Again, as I shared in the note above, Miguel seemed intent on going further than a kiss – so forceful persuasion was not out of the question. Of course, we didn’t see anything happen because Gunther called on her cell phone (which she pretended was her mother in trouble.)
Man, check out the second frame! I zoomed in close, and Greg drew a really pretty detailed shape for Luann’s breast. It’s not just a sharp shape. It looks like he drew in the shape of her swollen little nipples. Nice one, Greg!

Well said. Idiotic comments made by “luann’s zit.” A juvenile name in itself. I also think that the fact that each of them were knocked onto their backs shows how powerful, and potentially frightening for them, their chemistry really is. Nice panel at the end… a thousand words.
Just a comment on the cartoon itself. I’m always amazed at how well an artist can communicate feelings with just a few pen stokes. Glancing casually at Panel #2 we see the initial phase of the kiss – no arms involved and Luann’s eyebrows are raised, as in inquiry; “Am I doing this right? I’m glad we’ve finally decided this is a good idea.” THEN Panel #3 when the couple is concentrating on the pleasure involved, both that received and that given – arms are extended to enfold each other and draw closer. Luann’s eyebrows are lowered to indicate involvement rather than performance. She’s probably thinking something like, “This is nice! Too bad we waited so long, but this was worth waiting for.” Finally, Panel #4 – we’re not sure just what the artist has in mind, but it seems to be contentment or satisfaction. In other activity, it could be considered the Resolution Phase. All in all a real feel-good strip and that’s why several people have said, “Well done, Greg!” I concur!
I think rape is a perfectly plausible story arc option, because, surprised — they’re unexpected. The only reason I think it wouldn’t turn rape is the general attitude of the strip as far as precedence goes.
I think instead, they’re on their backs laughing and how silly they were for trying that, realizing that the tension is broken and they can be more themselves at that point. That, or what’s-his-name Luann’s prior crush is going to walk in saying he’s back..
It will certainly get back to Tiffany. I don’t think that Quill intended ‘more than friends’ to mean just physical intimacy. He meant he wants to ‘go steady’ - and THAT will infuriate Tiffany. tee hee.

I must be reading a different strip to the rest of you. It does not suggest to me that Luann was raped, and is anything other than a willing partner to this encounter. Quill does not pressure Luann, and she is always left free to move away if she wants. She does the opposite, moving towards Quill in the second panel, and makes no effort to move away in the third or fourth to indicate second thoughts.
I cannot see either Luann or Quill claiming rape or even supporting such a claim. Rape could only be brought into the equation by a third person becoming involved, such as Luann’s parents, or Brad finding out about it. Even then, they would need Luann to testify as a witness, which she would not do. Even then, we are getting ahead of ourselves, as they are both still dressed, and there is no indication even that they have had sex. This is about as far fetched as the “assault” in Weenieworld a short while ago.
This is a serious topic and I do not think Greg will pursue it in this kind of strip. I predict that Quill will return to Australia soon, leaving Brad behind to help Luann mend her broken heart.
As an aside, I do not know anybody in Australia named quill. Is this some sort of nickname?

After having read most of the comments here, I have made this observation – No one seems to have caught on to the fact that Quill said that he would be the kisser (and thus, Luann would be the kissee), but Luann is the one that leans in towards Quill to act more as the initiator. Only after that do we see Quill leaning in to Luann. What does that say to you?
Also, I wholly agree that “Luann’s Zit” is an idiot that is trying to drum up attention. And has succeeded quite well.

If anyone in this strip is a potential rapist, it is that slimy guy who was aggressive to Rosa. But for everyone else, it was clear that the story was not going the way you both feared and hoped.Yes, there are some sweet talkers with bad intentions. Teens read the comics too and the message just might be that BOTH want to wait until 1) their engaged to be married at some point down the line or 2) God forbid.. wait until they’re married. Sex is not dirty. Those kids are just making out; teenagers will do this. They do a lot more too, but I doubt you will see that sort of action in this strip. Now that they have enjoyed a kiss, it opens up the possibility Quill will be summoned back to the antipodes leaving Luann to deal with the complexities of teenage heart break.

Well, I see not everyone believes luanne’s zit. Let me just say that I have served on three juries: two convictions, one acquittal; one harassment trial, one 4th degree sexual assault and one DUI. I had always wondered how jurors could tell who was lying or telling the truth but then knew for sure that at least three people were lying through their teeth, hence one of the convictions. In the second case, there was a reliable witness and the poor sap had had the poor judgment to grope the bottom of a female officer right in the police station. In the acquittal case we believed the accused at least to the point of a reasonable doubt. Please, guys, give luanne’s zit at least the benefit of a reasonable doubt.

Before the kiss, there needed to be a conversation: Either 1) “we won’t take any clothes off” or 2) “if we later decide to have sex, we need to first talk about STDs and contraception. Gad, reading all the comments was just as emotionally draining as waiting for the oucome of this ‘first kiss’ scenario.
@Wesley-B and Luann’s Zit…so long as you both are suffering from the trauma that others have inflicted upon you, you are unintentionally allowing the pervs to maintain control over your lives. You must try, somehow, to take your life back and go forward in a positive manner. Life is too short as it is and you both sound like lovely people; negativity is leeching all the joyfulness out of your lives. Please make it a goal to find enough happiness in every single day that it obliterates all the ugly stuff from entering your minds.
I think Quill and Luann are simply savoring the experience of having had the courage to actually carryout their first grownup kiss. Having gone steady at that age for about two years, I can attest to the fact that you can do a lot of heartfelt kissing without going into forbidden territory. It takes mutual respect and self-control, though…two qualities today’s teens don’t bother to cultivat.

Any one ever think this might be a way for Greg Evans to introduce a younger audience to a “safe sex” lesson? “Safe” as in abstinence? For those thinking Luann and Quill are “too young,” there’s many a younger lady (than Luann) being called “Mommy.” out there in the so-called “civilized” world. It would be ironic if Mr. & Mrs. Degroot walked in right about now, and instead of going ballistic, had an honest discussion with both kids about the responsibilities that go along with having “adult” fun. I hope that they do, because they sure as hell are not going to stop them if they have “wanna” on their minds.

The road from first ever kiss to first “roll in the hay”, is generally quite long. Luann is a level-headed girl, and she has gotten quire enough excitement from that kiss. Quill is a gentleman. He respects Luann and won’t push anything. Many months from now they may finally go “all the way”, but if they do, it will be a beautiful act of love, NOT rape.

Just a comment on the cartoon itself. I’m always amazed at how well an artist can communicate feelings with just a few pen stokes. Glancing casually at Panel #2 we see the initial phase of the kiss – no arms involved and Luann’s eyebrows are raised, as in inquiry; “Am I doing this right? I’m glad we’ve finally decided this is a good idea.” THEN Panel #3 when the couple is concentrating on the pleasure involved, both that received and that given – arms are extended to enfold each other and draw closer. Luann’s eyebrows are lowered to indicate involvement rather than performance. She’s probably thinking something like, “This is nice! Too bad we waited so long, but this was worth waiting for.” Finally, Panel #4 – we’re not sure just what the artist has in mind, but it seems to be contentment or satisfaction. In other activity, it could be considered the Resolution Phase. All in all a real feel-good strip and that’s why several people have said, “Well done, Greg!” I concur!

I think rape is a perfectly plausible story arc option, because, surprised — they’re unexpected. The only reason I think it wouldn’t turn rape is the general attitude of the strip as far as precedence goes.
I think instead, they’re on their backs laughing and how silly they were for trying that, realizing that the tension is broken and they can be more themselves at that point. That, or what’s-his-name Luann’s prior crush is going to walk in saying he’s back..

As such, any attack on them is indeed an attack on a friend or an enemy, depending on who is attacked...I assume you are telling the truth when you say you are a rape victim and that is why you assume every man is a rapist. Since every man is NOT a rapist, it is reasonable that they would feel the need to defend themselves. Some may have done so especially harshly, I haven’t read but a few of the first and the last comments, but know how some get.-Leave or stay, you are free to do either. Man, I knew this story arc would invite comment. Actually the responses, more here than anything else because they involve the hit of teen-age sexuality (which is a very brave thing to do in a family strip, but very on-time I think) really reflect the people who write them, rather than any reasonable interpretation of the storyline. One could have all sorts of interpretations here, but lets face it, does what Quill and Luann represent here really shock anyone? These are two assumedly normal teen-agers who are mutually attracted, and the situation comes up where mom and dad are not around. Hormones, and human nature, and the normal sexual maturation period anyone? Or maybe people only think the worse? Anyway take a breath and enjoy. Greg Evans has bravely and adroitly covered a lot of teen-age, young adult, and family issues over the years, and that I one reaso I am such a fan.

I must be reading a different strip to the rest of you. It does not suggest to me that Luann was raped, and is anything other than a willing partner to this encounter. Quill does not pressure Luann, and she is always left free to move away if she wants. She does the opposite, moving towards Quill in the second panel, and makes no effort to move away in the third or fourth to indicate second thoughts.
I cannot see either Luann or Quill claiming rape or even supporting such a claim. Rape could only be brought into the equation by a third person becoming involved, such as Luann’s parents, or Brad finding out about it. Even then, they would need Luann to testify as a witness, which she would not do. Even then, we are getting ahead of ourselves, as they are both still dressed, and there is no indication even that they have had sex. This is about as far fetched as the “assault” in Weenieworld a short while ago.
This is a serious topic and I do not think Greg will pursue it in this kind of strip. I predict that Quill will return to Australia soon, leaving Brad behind to help Luann mend her broken heart.
As an aside, I do not know anybody in Australia named quill. Is this some sort of nickname?
