Reagon was the antichrist. Count the letters in his first, middle, and last name. TThe mess were in now all started with him.

Lifelong lib, me. Buckley and I exchanged letters awhile in the 70’s…took him a wheel of brie and some good local wine when he was at the Grove one year.

We had some good ones about gun control. He liked the FACT that every American who owns a gun is a member of the Militia, and subject to immediate callup if the government ever so chooses.

I like to goad our elected reps to call us gun-owners up, because a little training never hurt anybody, and frankly anybody who owns a gun needs some basic proficiency and manners…this isn’t a wilderness we live in.

ps: I guess if you can’t SPELL Reagan’s name maybe you’d think he was the anti-freeze, or whatever.

Pay attention to Barry Goldwater. Back when he was the Conservative of conservatives in the U.S., he warned repeatedly and at length that intrusion of religion into politics would be the doom of the party and American political life in general. He feared it above all things. Probably a blessing that he didn’t live to see it happen.

BUZZ! Alex, who are three people who would be considered too liberal to be in the Republican party today?

Rand and Goldwater have a fair amount in common. Rand hated Reagan and despised Buckley (who frequently used National Review as an avenue for hit pieces on her).

If they were alive today, Rand and Goldwater would excoriate both parties as just being two sides of the same collectivist coin.

I’d go back to George Washington. He knew political parties were a bad idea.

I agree. However, a lot of conservatives for whatever reason tend to rally around some of her views. She was extremely pro-capitalist, though not necessarily pro-business (since business isn’t always capitalist).
