Huh?? What a disgrace. Maybe you want to portray them with their pants halfway-down their buttocks as well? Come on. You’re so blinded by your agenda that you don’t see that your standing up for the wrong people.
One Federalist, One Democratic-Republican, and two Republicans, all would have supported true “self defense”, none would have supported vigilante justice. Two were warriors, two were not, but all DID know what “stand your ground” meant with regard to principle. Two slave owners, two repulsed by the concept. None supported “corporations as people”, though all were wealthy and eventually of “privilege” whether inherited, or earned. All were involved in controversy, which was what made them “leaders”?
Just for the record, the detective in charge of the Trayvon Martin investigation thought Zimmerman should be charged with manslaughter…but the State prosecutor’s office overruled him.
The police also insisted upon questioning Zimmerman before allowing him to have any medical attention. Why would they do that, if he was as badly beaten up as he’s claiming now?
Also, I looked up the rumor that Zimmerman’s father is retired judge. There’s absolutely nothing to confirm it on any credible news source, so I’m filing this one under ‘urban legend.’
^^Evidence collection prior to, if minor injury, or during medical treatment if injuries are more “serious”, is common police practice. You do NOT want “medical cleanup” removing evidence.
Steve Benson has artistic talent, but he’s got the analytical mind of a turnip. Political pundits who TRY to express themselves through this medium should also explain what they’re trying to say in an intelligent fashion.
BTW, Great Cartoon, Steve! And @dtroutma FYI Washington was not a Federalist, but the only president that did not belong to any party. He abhorred the idea of parties. I agree with him that they are the root of all political evil. Well, maybe not all… But as de Tocqueville said (approximately), There are honorable men in each party, but there is no party of honor in the US.
Jim: Washington and John Adams are the only two listed as: Federalist. (Never “officially” but they claimed him, but a friend has done some biographies on him, can check.) But I do agree with the sentiment you state, and de Tocqueville, especially of late. Also like the ’toon.
re John Sherffius: ARodney reported a few months back that the Boulder Daily Camera had announced his retirement from cartooning to pursue better remunerated employment to best support his family (kid’s college education).Excellent cartoonist for the reasons you mention. Cannot imagine why his work could not have earned him a fortune.

Can you imagine if Zimmerman had been black and Trayvon had been a white kid, that Zimmerman would not have been carted off to jail at the scene?
