Do you suppose some clever person loaded it with black powder blanks before they gave it to the kid?
It sure does look like shooting it offhand would be a challenge.

Either it has some massive counterbalancing gadgets or Scrappy Lad is a whole lot stronger than he looks.
And SL can hold it. Must be pretty light.
