The only one who really wins the lottery is the State. They sell the tickets and tax the prizes.

I love how Bucky grows very little in the last panel. It reminds me of a speech given by the wonderful actor Finlay Currie in “People Will Talk” : “Professor Elwell, you’re a little man. It’s not that you’re short. You’re…little, in the mind and in the heart. Tonight, you tried to make a man little whose boots you couldn’t touch if you stood on tiptoe on top of the highest mountain in the world. And as it turned out…you’re even littler than you were before.”

Hey, in PA (and other states, of course), the lottery funds several important programs. Seems fair to me.

Do your betting with the Mafia Satch. They give better odds.

Ahh, the word “fair” rears its ugly head in the same topic as state lottery, just another way of saying, tax any sucker who thinks they can get rich quick. It’s a “voluntary” tax, but a tax nonetheless.

State lottery’s are legalized gambling on the backs of the poor and middle class, using so-called “fair” examples of what “good” they do to justify their pocket picking.

orinoco has it right, the only real winner in a lottery is the “state”.

Satch, the kind pooch, will swap that ticket for Bucky’s dollar, unaware that he’s holding a winner. Oh Bucky, you do liven things up with your devious ways.

Voluntary tax for those with little else to get hope from.

I hope that the winning value of that ticket is only for the Dollar Bucky is offering. Teach him a lesson to read the prize value before offering any money. How many times have we hit three winning symbols only to see that the winning value was no more than the dollar we spent on the ticket to begin with.

Sure lotteries are a long-shot. But for a couple of bucks a week, I can spend millions, help friends, support libraries – whatever I can dream about. With every ticket, I am a potential millionaire, right up until I check the numbers. Do you get that kind of dream from your daily cuppa coffee?

    Didn’t think so.

Obtenez crepu! I liked the days when Darby was making fun of the French, slipping obscure cultural references into the strip, and drawing amazing cameos rather than showcasing Bucky’s meanness. But it’s still funny.

BGucky hs always been mean. Sometimes I call him downright evil. Satchel will never learn. If he did, it would be the end of the strip.

However, I hope Rob steps in.

People who whine about the lottery usually don’t play. People who play the lottery rarely whine about it because don’t miss the small amount of money. People who win the lottery don’t care what you think about it.

Come on. It’s just another scheme to strip cash. “We support…” BS BS BS. They have some kind of a payout to something you approve of…less tha a decent tax rate, for instance…and the schemers get whatever they can persuade you to part with. Thieves. Financial criminals. Ugly, cruel, undeserving, nasty. My how I hope for the return of virtue…or Armageddon, or maybe good sense in America, with the practice of fairness.Guillotines for Wall Streeters would have some entertainment value.

A term of derision often uttered by Bugs Bunny when referring to an interaction with a dopey adversary. It is a mispronunciation of the word “Moron”“What a Maroon!”

Without looking it up, I remember a Bugs Bunny cartoon where Daffy, a self-admitted greedy, craven little coward, is magically shrunken, yet still pops up squeaking, “Mine, mine, mine!” when Bugs finds a treasure. This strip seems to be playing on all that. (Man, way to talk the fun out of a comic, Arianne!)

Quickly24, thanks…..Imagine how much you would have “won” you didn’t by 3 each week….Oak Ridge Boy, my number was 151, in 1970…They were only taking kids with 100 or below….It was the best lottery I ever lost………..Why play any other one? I “won” the big one…
