the economy is in the tank … remember when you could buy an election for only 10 mil? now 100 mill and your candidate still only takes a couple of states.

Excellent point. Once upon a time, a 5-cent cigar and a bottle hooch split six ways would do it.

They should all duel for it. Last man standing takes it. That would cut down on the candidates. It would favor the thin with good vision – two more positive qualities than we are likely to get with this system.

bagbalm: I agree with making politicians duel. Especially if they duel with hand grenades while handcuffed together.

Well, if you assume the president has the power to wave the magic wand and immediately solve all the problems that existed when he took office, then I guess yeah, the current occupant’s a failure..Oh, wait… for each of the eight months preceding Obama’s inauguration, the country was (on the net) losing jobs, and the number of jobs lost each month was increasing. Starting in February of ‘09, the monthly job loss numbers started steadily decreasing, and after about a year the nation started creating more jobs than it lost. As of last month, it’s something like a quarter-million per month net increase in jobs. Not a perfect magic wand, but given that one party in congress (who shall remain nameless, like the unspeakable evil of a Lovecraft story) has said its Number One Priority (above the economy, national security, etc.) is to make the current occupant a one term president, it’s not a bad performance…

Remember, the campaigners are Job Creators! It’s been reported that this year’s candidates will ultimately spend $6-7 billion on campaign ads. Figuring a loaded salary of $150K for each person employed in the business, that’s something over 40 thousand jobs created! We should have elections EVERY year!

The candidates have probably spent more trying to get the nomination to run for president than the GNP of some countries. And for what? Makes me wonder if the ones that want the office are the ones least fit to have it?

Yeah, “They should”…duel? or drool? Who is your Daddy (‘They") who’s going to make all these changes for you?

I’m surprised that people who still think like THAT can get on this comic and blog.

I’m just guessing here…that you probably don’t want to discuss the deregulation of the banking industry under Bush, and the illegal wars, under Bush and the failed trickle down voodoo economics that put us in the mess in the first place. President Obama has not been perfect, but he’s turned it around enough that people can start to see the light again. Republicans like to cry about spending, but you just need to look at Greece to see where austerity programs take you…down the tubes! The U.S. is the only country experiencing a positive turn in its economy and it’s because of government investment (spending). You guys on the right just sound silly when you constantly refuse to recognize improvement and you’ll see where that’s going to take you in November…Down The Tubes!

And exactly how are things supposed to “change” when The President has to work with a hostile House that blocks his every move? People that blame only Obama for the current economic woes have no concept of balance of power.

Or do like the Praetorian Guard did and auction off the whole empire. Of course, it should be noted that the “winner” didn’t live to the end of the year – by unnatural means.

How about Santorum…the candidate who is managing to get the popular vote with less than 1/10th of Romney’s financial power? That’s my guy (for different reasons, obviously)
