Ann now knows how much her personality stinks. Not even the customers like her. Not even this guy is attracted to her supposedly sexiness as described by some of our male commentators. I like this customer guy. Let’s keep him.

@sassy1:You surely do have a right to your opinion, as do I. I did not ‘make it into a Federal case’ – Just surprised (and you are hardly the only complainer) at the number of folks who complain frequently and loudly about something that is being served up to them for free and that they must make an effort to get to.

A frequent comment on the ‘Net relates it to complaining about the flavor of the free ice cream you’re being given, or perhaps, “Daadddy, I didn’t WANT the PORSCHE, I wanted the FERRARI!” type of complaint.

    Slainte!

While yesterday’s strip was a little annoying (simply because it didn’t fit in with Ann’s personality, no matter how much money TJ brings in), today’s strip is highly entertaining. I love that she is trying to prove that she can do what TJ can do. And fails. She is probably not use to failure. Love it. Love her teeny weenie, “Fine. 1.50 please.”

This is a privately ran website for a private sector comic strip writer…you actually have fewer “rights” than you think here. The rights you’re referring to (opinion, speech, etc) are rights from government limitation and/or oppression.

That said, I’m hoping TJ really screws with Ann really good!

@SueB:Well thats the point the guy was trying to make. All he wanted was a black coffee. I used to work at a Burger King and we had plenty of coustomers who just wanted just coffee or just soda (and maybe just fries). The differance between between T.J. and Eyesore is that TJ has a good friendly attitude and Eyesore is nothing more that a breathing stone cold hearted statue. Working 6 years at a Burger King for 6 years I have seen both type of cashiers. Ones like Eyesore and ones like TJ.

If it does not, it is your choice to continue reading or not.Check out a strip like Endtown if you want to see how disagreement can stay civilized in the comments.

How convenient that “hard-sell-guy” comes along JUST when Ann is going to show TJ she’s as good as him at this con game. I don’t think TJ set it up because he couldn’t know when Ann was going to get tough. But Greg created a real “gotcha” with this strip.

You said that so well. She can’t sell because she lacks the skill to choose her target. In the Real World (ahem), no salesperson hits it big everytime. I bet TJ sold a lot of “coffee, only” – but very efficiently. Oh, and her being devoid of empathy just makes it more plausible, and the karma sweeter.

This story arc is kinda stupid. Sure, Ann is a creep, but I’m not convinced that demonstrating TJ’s “training” of her is a positive thing to be showing. Aren’t there fetish genres that this storyline is more suited to? It’s either that, or some drawn out torture of Eiffel for being a jerk in the past – also ethically spotty.

I don’t mind the arc, but we’re looking at two thoroughly similar and unlikeable characters interacting here. They’re both big time manipulators, regardless of how they use their skills (intimidation/power vs personal amusement). So, fine, but let’s hope it goes somewhere fast. I’m quite bored with T.J. and never liked him. I’m hoping he can redeem himself a bit and do something more worthwhile than scheming for revenge, like perhaps helping Ann to see herself as others do and help her change. It really seems like she knows what she’s doing and gets off on it, but it’s possible she’s dealing with some other problem she has by acting as she does. I’m guessing an overbearing parent(s) made her feel she never had any control at all so she’s moved to the other end of the spectrum in a kind of personal rebelliousness and T.J. can help her… somehow. If it just continues to be revenge-based then it’s pointless and all we can do is wait for the next arc.

People who complain about those who complain about the strip are just as bad as people who complain about the strip.

Whining about whining is still whining.

It’s silly to expect only positive comments here. Some people will be disappointed in a particular strip or plot thread, and their opinions are just as valid and interesting (if not more so) than those of the people who like the strip. If you dislike reading complaints, why would you then post your own complaints? All you’re doing is starting a big discussion/debate over complaining.

Just accept that not everyone has the same opinion as you and that you’ll encounter people whose opinion’s differ from yours throughout your life. Whining about isn’t going to do anything except increase the amount of whining going on.

This is free entertainment, especially for me since I use a public computer, but I have only 4 or 5 favorites, and it is just not as satisfying a read if one or two of them are arcs I don’t like. My absolute favorite in this strip is Luann interacting with her parents or that older lady that went into a nursing home, and I’m not too fond of either TJ or Ann. That just makes the ones I do like more of a treat.

@kenhense There is no comment section, for men or for women. In the author’s blog, there is this comment:“When I began syndication, in 1993, there was no such thing as presentation of a strip online in the present manner (at least, none I knew of). When my syndicate began doing it, they selected five strips as a trial, among which were “Peanuts,” “Rose Is Rose,” “Dilbert” and “9 Chickweed Lane.” They just showed up on a site, just as they showed up in the newspaper. There was no commentary, except in an editorial section, from people whose real names accompanied.“Years later, I found myself reading comments directly beneath my work, sometimes in vast numbers, votes included, all writers posting in anonymity. I also started to read libels, sometimes threats, trashing and praise. None of this was subjected to editorial overview (which, nevertheless, governs every detail of every comic offered by a syndicate). And I was offered no choice in how my work was presented. It was not offered on its own, but with an umbilical link to a supreme soviet of anonymous commentary.“I began to demand that the comments be subject to scrutiny – as well as deletion when they were unfit for publication – in the manner of newspapers and op ed columns. My syndicate did not want to do it. I pointed out that they, as a corporation, ran the risk of being party to libel if they did not. They were not concerned.“So, I objected and objected and objected as time went on and the tenor of posts became subject more and more to abuse. I wanted my work to appear as it did in the beginning, alone, without a raging public forum affixed to it. It was like looking at a work of art with the walls about it scrawled densely with graffiti.“I object to it. It is wrong.”

I don’t think it’s unusual to go to an ff place just for coffee. I go to McD’s for coffee a lot. It’s the only thing on their menu I do like. I go to the drive through unless there are a lot of cars there, then it’s faster to go inside. At my McD’s the coffee is only $1, any size. I wouldn’t pay 50 cents for a starbucks if they were next door and I had to drive across town to McD’s. So this strip made perfect sense to me.
