Man: $*@! My kid could paint that! Moondog: Heh... heh... well actually, if you look closely, you'll notice a subtlety of... Man: My son happens to be Wade Guyton, a late modernist who's been featured on the cover of Artforum Magazine...
Not THE “Wade Guyton”?! As a Late Modernist (a tad earlier than Post-Modernist) he should look down on such overstated work as the piece Moonie is trying to explain. Garish, overt, even vulgar!
People may pay insane amounts of money for this kind of art .. even if it is a black dot on a white canvas and try to say it means something. However, in the middle of the night, you know they wake up and say “I just spent HOW MUCH for a dot?”.
Years ago I saw a tv show where someone did an oil painting and the family dog (big with bushy tail) came along and wagged his tail over the wet paint. Idiots went gaga over the supposed “art”.
Meddick.. Uh.. You used this line years ago in Robotman..C’mon now! No recylcing! Also, Monty was originally an Alien. Yeah, I’m watchin’ you! OK OK, still kinda funny..
Hmmm…I seem to remember a very, very similar strip with a country hick telling Robotman “My daughter could paint this!” and Robotman telling him about the complexity of modern art. The hick then proceeds to tell him his daughter is a modern art student and throws back modern art techniques…or something like that.

Is Moondog McHorney begin an appreciation of art and his “stand alone” job?

The guy probably went to the art gallery every day for a month waiting to spring that joke on somebody.

Hey… this joke has already been used. I remember a Monty strip from a few years ago with the same joke.
A few details were different (Monty was there not Moondog, etc) but the joke was the same.

I don’t understand how a blob of colors could be a work of art. But I’m no artist either.

If you’ll like closely you can see that it still looks like a kindergarten scribble gone haywire.
