“The Far Side” is a great comic strip but it can’t work miracles. :)

But it came as close as it could get, along with Calvin and Hobbes.

Personally the Far Side got me into comics my copy of the Prehistory of the Far Side is very worn and dog eared, now as for Mutts I think that strip is nothing but garbage and recycled Garfield strips.

I’d love it if GoComics had Far Side classics like they do with some other strips.

I really like when “artists” throw kudos to others in their field. John Sanford does this in his novels, too. It shows, in my opinion, a generosity of character and a good sense of perspective.

The something huge was that people in the 70s grew up and got a life. I know because I lived through it.

If you had liberal doses of “POGO” as a kid, you’d be particularly fond of both of the main characters in this strip, as I am.

I experienced an actual Far Side. I was driving on the interstate and came up behind a dually pickup truck with boxes stacked high in the bed. They were shrink wrapped but the top of the wrap had torn open. Fearing that the top boxes might fall on the road I passed the truck. I looked over and was amazed to see stenciled on the side of the boxes “tie-down straps”.

Would love to see a “Far Sides” classics on line. Loved that strip and loved the retrospective that was in San Francisco. Could hear people laughing all over the place.

My gang would “moo” at the cows we passed and then much later saw “The Far Side” comic when the cows reacted to idiots like us. Genius.

This comic has been a great comic to fill the hole that the departure of “Calvin and Hobbes” left, but none of the current pretenders (and I have them all in my daily list) comes close to being “The Far Side.” That’s gone forever.
