Personally, I don’t believe that people come back as ghosts. However, I do remember when my cousin was about 13 (I was about 30) and would not sleep upstairs at our grandparents’ house because he believed there was a ghost up there. Everyone else told him that “there’s no such thing as ghosts” and he didn’t believe them. I talked to him about why ghosts “haunt” – dying in the house, that sort of thing. He and I both knew that our grandparents had built that house themselves and no one had ever died there, so he accepted the fact that there probably wouldn’t be a ghost upstairs and never had a problem with it again. My Aunt and Grandmother never did figure out why he changed his mind.
Because six people had died in or on our old farm, my psychotic mother just KNEW that the house was haunted and was deathly afraid of everything on the place. Us kids figured that if there were ghosts, they were ‘family’ and let it go at that.
