OUCH! That strikes just a little close to home! Cat lovers like me will be in tears ourselves if there’s no happy ending to this!

In a few weeks he should go the shelter and find a new pet, there are pleanty of animals out there that could use a loving home. He should name the new one Zachary (Quinto, the new Spock).

oh nononono – not again! Didn’t Tatulli almost kill the poor kitty once before?

OK, I know that reality means pets don’t live forever…but, dang! this is a comic strip! Give us a happy ending!

I don’t know. I would be sad if Spock didn’t make it, and I identify with Dean and Heart so I don’t actually want them to be unhappy. At the same time, it would be a brave and wise thing to use this opportunity to have them learn and grow from this difficult event. Such a thought provoking topic. Excellent work!

I’ve lost many cats. every one of them hurt badly. Especially the latest one, shortly after we lost a dog. I hope this is just a plot twist and Spock will be okay. Don’t kill off one of your favorite characters.

No, not Spock! I hope he gets better, he reminds me of my own little black cat! She got picked up by a large bird (she was a tiiiiny thing, only 3 pounds), but she got away and we thought she was fine but I guess she had internal bleeding from it’s claws and she died a few days later. Spock can’t die!

zuria: This is one of those comics in which no one ages. Therefore, a cat can’t die of old age. Other causes, maybe.

I like the idea that if Spock does leave Dean, that he adopts from the animal shelter. PLENTY of unwanted pets waiting for a loving home!

Has anyone besides FBoFW ever had a beloved family pet die? I don’t think it’ll happen here. No one gets older, and no one dies, in this type of strip. (Right, Mark?!?!)

As someone who has had several pet cats from childhood through adulthood, I know exactly how Dean feels— I have experienced it many times myself. It’s amazing how a fictional comic story can seen so real…

We take in “broken” or unwanted cats and to have them join Starclan is always sad. He may pull through, though.

Oops! In my earlier post, I meant to say, “It’s amazing how a comic strip can seem (not seen) so real.” Anyway, if Spock lives, Dean will appreciate the fact that miracles can happen— If Spock dies, it will help Dean learn about how death has to be accepted as part of living. When I first began reading this strip, I thought it was rather silly & stupid. After the last few years, I have come to realize that it has much more depth than so many other kid-oriented comics. One fine example is how Mrs. Angellini makes Heart think above the level of a child.

Lost my Loki-cat not that long ago. PLEASE DO NOT KILL SPOCK!! Loki was black like Spock, too. DON’T KILL SPOCK!! Cartoon cats should be ageless and immortal. If Garfield can live forever on a lasagna diet, then DON’T KILL SPOCK.

No! Spock has to get better. He is a mirror image of my little black cat with big ears, who sits on my paperwork, loves catnip and is my best friend. Spock is the reason I started reading this strip. I look forward to days with him in it.

It was me who saw the sadness in Dean’s eyes and then it just clicked on what would hit him that hard.

I’m saddened to be right, I sure wished I wasn’t.

I dunno. Dead pets are sad, but I’m very aware that I’m reading a kids comic strip. Feels like it’ll take the Disney route.
