And people wonder where Calvin gets his vocabulary from. He’s clearly his father’s son — even if he hates the idea!

“I’ve had it up to here!” my dad would say before the belt came off…then we’d have it a bit lower.

My dad would get whiplash, he could whip that belt out so fast. That’s when I knew I’d overdone it this time.

Calvin, your opinions don’t count until your voting age and king of your own castle.

Dad is fond of saying that suffering builds character, so yes his level of agony is very high with Calvin around.

“That’s what we hate?” Calvin must have a frog in his pocket. In my day I would have had my butt spanked and grounded for a week for speaking like that to my father. Respect is a foreign word to much of today’s youth.

Calvin had a pencil on his ear, but it fell off during the second panel.

…i can relate to dad, it’s why I never had kids…everybody says “But it’s different when they’re your own!” however, I couldn’t take that chance – it’s not like you can send them back…

“Suffering builds character” if there’s a positive response to it, but not if there’s a negative reaction to it!

Dad has a preternatural intolerance to ‘vexatious’ kids.Johnny Pesky might not appreciate that comment.

Dad has too much tolerance. Maybe he could encourage Calvin to channel his energy and ideas better?

Probably. Problem is that today’s “enemy” isn’t clearly defined; no “kraut” or “nip” helmet or plane, no “war” paint. No more obvious “goodfellas” to target, so good against evil has broken down to “I don’t like you, so bang! You’re dead!” literally.
