Maleficence? How is it that this kid uses bigger words than I do in normal conversation?

Watterson original art auctioned. Also a portrait he did for Cul-de-Sac. See Comic Riffs on Washington Post.

You can be good at learning on your own and lousy at school. I am living proof. At that time in that place, homeschooling was unheard of, unfortunately.“Malefic”, “maleficence.” I’ve always known the word “malefic” and am glad to find it’s root. Thanks, Calvin.

I’ll bet 96% of you had to run to your dictionary to look up “Maleficence”. Will the 4% please stand up and take a bow.

    I’ll just keep my seat.

One day you’ll thank your dad, Calvin. He’s helped you avoid becoming a lazy, loony Occupy-ier.

Thanks for taking the time to looking it up in the dictionary. Both words pertain to wrongful actions, but MALFEASANCE is defined as “wrongdoing or misconduct, esp. by a public official; commission of an act that is positively unlawful: distinguished from MISFEASANCE.”So, once again, Calvin (and Watterson) are correct. Calvin is no public official and his bad behavior is not necessarily unlawful. NEVER QUESTION CALVIN’S VOCABULARY!

clearly a dated strip. In the year 2012, Dad would happily say “you’re right Calvin, it is your parents’ and teachers’ fault if you don’t turn out right. The phrase ‘you are your choices’ is for suckers.”

According to Marxists, everything that happens is inevitable, due to the historical inexorability of Class warfare and materialism and such. According to psychologists, we are all conditioned, and have no freedom.

They still act as if we had free will, though.

Calvin has Watterson’s vocabulary. But a real 7-year old may absorb that attitude and philosophy even though he can’t articulate it.Malefactor, compare to benefactor.

Calvin the lawyer arguing before the Supreme Court of Dad, and getting nowhere in the process. Thou shalt always check thy brief throughly before opening thy mouth in court and making a fool out of thyself…have a great weekend, everybody….

And when you’re a clever little boy like Calvin, shoveling also builds a whole army of funny, delightful “Snow Goons” too!
