I will make the assumption you are just ignorant not stupid. 47% of US households do not pay one penny (1¢) in federal Income taxes. Not one penny. Look it up.
@billdogMany of those people also get refundable tax credits. Not only to they get back whatever small amount of income tax they had withheld, but they get a refund for money they didn’t pay.
It gets tiresome listening to the same selfish, mean-spirited, little minded corporate puppets endlessly spitting out this garbage about the 47%. They are poor, for whatever reasons, many through no fault of their own, some due to laziness or a willingness to “work the system”, many whose spirit was broken long ago and cannot rise to the call of the “great American opportunity”. There is no satisfactory solution in trying to bleed the poor any more than they have already been bled. There’s no money there!! And also, it’s spiritually bankrupt of these people like Libertarian1 (above) to insist that driving people down even farther is going to suddenly get this country out of debt. There are people who have profited greatly, at great cost to not only the poor, but to the entire middle class. They are smart, and they understand the “system” and they know how to play it at a whole other level than the poor who do it for subsistence. They are living in mansions with servants, yachts, multiple luxury cars, houses in the Italian countryside, and on and on and on and on. We are all a part of this system, but the ones who “game” it at the highest level are the ones who bring suffering to everyone else. They are called…“The Rich” and it’s time they started paying their share and scaling back. If they Republicans win in 2012 it will never happen.
The claim that 47% of people don’t pay federal income tax only works if you don’t count payroll taxes (which are a federal tax that kicks in at your first dollar). When you’re lower income, you pay a much higher percentage of your income in total taxes than if you’re wealthy, even if you don’t have “income taxes.” Incidentally, the very rich tend not pay much in federal income tax either, because they make most of their money in investments, which has a much lower tax rate.
Isn’t it hilarious, watching tea-party Repubs try to convince everybody that Newt Ginrich, a guy they’ve never given the time of day until now, was secretly their guy from Day One?
Just like Hermain Cain was secretly their guy from Day One a month ago
And Rick Perry was secretly their guy from Day One three months ago
And Michell Bachmann secretly was their gal from Day One six months ago.
And Donald Trump was secretly their guy from Day One back in February.
I just wonder who their NEXT guy the tea-party Repubs always backed ( ’We have SO!" ) is going to be.
Libertarian1,What percentage of gross income do the bottom 50% pay in sales tax? And then what percentage of federal taxes went to banker bonuses? How much does Halliburton pull in from military contracts? How much does an infantryman get paid? In Texas, how much did Perry funnel to his pals? How much did Perry rob from the school fund?
Cherry picking facts is not a reasonable way to make your point. Where did your 47% don’t pay taxes come from? I assume that includes the people who earn $1,000,000+ and pay $0 in taxes.
