I ran out of gas. I… I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

Wonder how much Parker and Hart is paying the carttonists of Andy Capp for the idea. Blanch is replacing Flo

If you’re gonna have a jar full of excuses, at least make them plausible ones.

Looking at it from a science point of view, the tornado reference should be EF-5, not F-5. The Fujitsu scale was enhanced (hence the “E”) in 2007. A odd piece of history for those who are interested: Mr. Fujitsu was living in Kokura, Japan during WWII, which was the primary target for August 9, but was obscured by clouds, leading to Nagasaki being bombed. (I learned this from a “When Weather Changed History” program on the Weather Channel.)
