Those who believe we only have a certain number of days left on earth must not believe in what Jesus taught about “everlasting life”. The scriptures tell us ‘God created the earth to be inhabited’. Jesus talked about living forever and even stated that those who were living at the end of the system of things would “not taste death at all”. So, for some, death will never become a reality.
I guess one thing that puzzles me is the same thing that puzzled the cowboy in church. When the preacher talked about the wonderful things in heaven, (i.e. streets of gold, etc.) everyone in the church was saying hallelujah, praise the Lord. But when he stood up with his six guns and asked who wanted to go NOW.. No one wanted to go.
Of course this is not the proper forum for religious discussion, as I’m sure I’ll be reading. Religion and politics seem to divide. One thing to think about however… If Adam and Eve had not sinned, where would they be today? And when they died, did they go to heaven?
I believe the problem gocomics is having is bandwidth. Not yours, thiers. It is now the first of the month, everything is fine – but wait two or three weeks. My guess is that the server (thier server) offered ‘unlimited’ bandwidth, but had a ceiling where it was throttled back – like cell companies do – once it reached a certain point it limited access. Notice that comments are now reduced to five or so unless you open the rest – gocomics is trying to reduce traffic, and therefore extend the time until they hit the ‘unlimited’ ceiling. Give it a little time, it’ll work out.
@rogue53: You sometimes post comments on religion, and I don’t think that they are off topic here, because Bill Watterson sometimes raises profound religious and philosophical questions through Calvin.

a medium rare ribeye steak with roasted red potatoes and grilled squash from my garden, yeah life is worth livin. Oh yeah, and my wife (she doesn’t read this but thought I’d better include her for the karma). And since my Giants won the World Series last year I can die a happy man.
I’ve had no problems getting this cartoon here at the Senior Center’s computer, but what do I know, I’m and old guy. Seafood wise, I love lobster, bay scallops, swordfish, and those incredible nutty flavored clams they used to have at Howard Johnson’s. Boy do I miss those. Now that I think about it, catfish like the kind they serve at that little roadside resturant called Ezell’s in Montgomery, Alabama. This is making me hungry, I think I’ll go into the cafeteria and see what they’re having for lunch…..

It also looks like Calvin has grown his hair taller to try to keep up.
Today’s strip seems appropriate in a way given that today’s my birthday (ha ha). While I don’t see seafood in my future for dinner . . . I hopefully do see a nice slice of chocolate cheesecake from the local homemade ice cream and pie kitchen shop though! YUM!!!!!!!!!!
If you’re talking about enzymatic reactions, there is a high level of specificity to the reactions (usually), but you have to have a very non-random enzyme to do that. So where did the enzyme come from? How lucky are we that, for example, 100 amino acids (for a short protein) came together in the right order? The chances of that happening are ~ 1/20^100. My TI-83 can’t even go that high. And that’s just for one out of the thousands of proteins that we have. How lucky are we that there was DNA that could set up that specific sequence AND an enzyme already in existence that could replicate that DNA, AND an enzyme that could transcribe it to RNA, AND an enzyme that could translate that RNA into proteins, etc.
I agree that if they had not sinned, Adam and Eve would still be in Paradise, and so would all their offspring.
However, considering that it was the Serpent – not God – who told Eve that she would become like God if she ate from that tree, why should Adam and Eve be in heaven? Is God obligated to keep up the Serpent’s, (read, “Father of the Lie” here), end of the deal?
How can you say that Adam and Eve repented, when like a couple of bratty little kids, each one blamed someone else for what they’d done, and Adam blamed God for the woman He gave him?
Two things humans cannot wrap their brain around: Time and space. What is beyond the edge of space? What was there before time started. We weren’t designed to understand those things currently.
In order to ask that question, you must assume that God, who is not necessarily confined to this universe or its laws (including the whole “arrow of time” thing), had a beginning. That may not be a valid assumption.
This is one of the classic Calvin and Hobbes that has guided my life. I laugh every time I read it and I’ve read it hundreds of times. Absolutely classic.

Adam sinned willfully; Eve “being deceived, was in the transgression”. They eventually died in their natural bodies, but will be raised with the rest of the believers in new spiritual bodies when Jesus Christ returns.It appears that you do not believe in immortal souls, but then what purpose is there for living now if we die into oblivion? Why would God create human beings only for this life? It might be fine while it lasts, but once life is gone, the purpose is gone. We have no more existence and if’s all for nothing.
