American political parties have peen polarized into two distinct philosophical and economic beliefs for how government should be run in order to best serve the people: (1) That the purpose of government is to protect the opulent rich from the masses, and (2) That the purpose of government is to do the most it can for the most people with the money that it has. Neither will prove functional in the long term without compromise and consensus.
