This is a ‘slice of reality’ at it’s best.

Between the worker and the trooper is a foreman with a clipboard. Ooh, here comes the guy with the coffee.

Although I enjoy mocking the state workers as much as anyone, I have been impressed with their responses to the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. With the number of roads knocked out and trees down here, they have been working non-stop. And when they come, they come like a force of nature.

this is so true in Virginia. I never saw it take so long to build roads.

Sitting in cruisers, stopping drunk and belligerent drivers, investigating collisions, being sworn at, threatened, vomited and spit upon, stabbed, shot; in general risking their lives every day and night of the year so people can read the paper and fix their mascara while driving to work. The median wage for a police patrol officer in the United States is just under $50 000/year. The 90th percentile comes in at $67 149.00. New York State police earn a median salary of $112 537, and in San Bernadino, CA, the median wage is $48 000.

But even if they were making as much as you claim, would you prefer that they NOT be there? Would YOU want to be driving a cruiser at 1:00 a.m. on January 1 in North Dakota in -40º temperatures? Would you want to be the officer who has to tell a young man that his beautiful wife, who is 7 months pregnant, was just killed by a drunk driver?

Must be a union job. But boy, do they ever cry whenever anyone talks about cut-backs! Atypical of how an American business goes wrong.

Thanks mrssaskfan. Too many old retired complainers that know all of the answers but failed to change anything when younger.

I appreciate all that risk their lives; be it police, fireman or the military to name a few.

Lets see… I have been and still am (after 28 years) a volunteer firefighter in my community, served on the local village board for 3 terms (voted in) in the 80’s and early 90’s, have a Masters Degree in Entomology, have worked for a municipality for 30 years (to retire this coming April), my wife is a grade school teacher ..bla bla bla I am just getting tired of too many complainers.

That being said, out of respect for a fellow firefighter, I am not slamming on you personally and appreciate your service to your community and hope you the best of health in the future.
