I don’t consider Baseball, Football, Basketball, Soccer, or Rugby to be “mindless sports”.

Oh, sports aren’t mindless — reality is..Sports always have rules, and a purpose, and an arc: a beginning, an end, and a result that speaks to our notions of right and wrong. “Reality” — the natural world we see around us — is arbitrary, unpredictable, and utterly, terrifyingly indifferent to our values and interests. The best evidence that we are, at heart, supernatural beings is that we’re repelled by “reality” for exactly those reasons; something in us insists on something better..And so we create human society, art, sports, and, yes, religions: they give expression to that place in us that knows, without being told, that life has a purpose — that there is a true reality, of which this “reality” is only a shabby perversion..So don’t knock sports! They’re a reflection of what distinguishes us from the mindless, meaningless cosmos that we’re stuck with living in for the moment.

Hmm. This is new. I don’t think I’ve seen shading in comic strip coloring before. I guess it was just a matter of time, since comic books have done it for years. You guys are missing the point. I think Cantu is saying the kids should be doing, not watching. It’s not a matter of TV vs. the street, but actually participating, getting fit, being involved in the world.
