That happened to me, likely because I am forgetful, I think I brought it home from a store and never planted it somewhere.

I found a tree growing in my in-laws rain gutter once. It was about 8" high.

It looks like Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree!

Sometime before I joined my husband’s family 22 years ago, my sister-in-law had an old car that my brother-in-law gave her when they first got married that she couldn’t bear to part with even though it didn’t run anymore. Rather than sell it cheap to a teenager, junk it, sell it for parts, whatever . . . she parked it behind one of the rental houses they own. Eventually, the car completely rusted and fell apart. In the meantime, a tree managed to sprout underneath it and grew up through the rusting floorboards (and it got pretty tall, too). Finally, they had to have the car towed away and disposed of after all. I’m still shaking my head at that one. I understand sentimentality. I’m extremely sentimental about things given to me by my husband (and kids) too throughout the years. But if you’re not going to properly take care of what you’re trying to preserve so that no harm or damage comes to it, then what’s the point? You might as well go ahead and sell it or give it away to someone who can really use it rather than let it sit there and go to ruin.

Now he can be a shade tree mechanic and carry his shade wherever he goes!
