I applaud Bud’s delegation of jar-opening to his son. It’s not laziness, it’s life-training. Opening jars is one of the few vital roles that are left to males in our modern world, and a father would be remiss in his responsibilities if he did not prepare his son to assume that mantle. It’s a rite of passage. How many modern men have no idea how to open a jar, because their fathers were absent or “too busy” to teach that skill to their sons?
(One of the other remaining bastions of manly responsibility is “reaching things in high places”, but Junior’s gonna need a growth spurt or two before he’s ready for initiation into THAT mystery…)
