Oddy enough – living by 1911 sensibilities seems normal w/dial up.

Pig! Don’t look so shocked! Instead, take a few moments to learn some elementary nautical terminology. Rat was clever enough to do so and dupe cartoon-Pastis!

You would think that upon finding out about that whole deck Pig should be as happy as a, err, pig in poop.

Seems like there’s a lot of cr@p in today’s comic pages. Check out today’s Wizard of Id.

I wonder what readers 20 years later will say about what we’re reading now.

If true, funny it didn’t make the late George Carlin’s list. It’s more restricted now than it was in 1972??

Come on … Who DIDN’T know what the punch line would be when Rat was speaking in the second panel?

Hey, I remember Gary Larson used to use “ass” in a ‘The Far Side’ panel of his. A donkey thinking to himself while reading a newspaper “dumb bunny.” Then a rabbit thinking to himself while watching TV (in the same room as the donkey) “smart ass.” We all know an ass is another word for donkey, but I’m sure the vulgarity for “buttocks” is censored in other comics.

I guess it could just be called the ship deck.

if you just look at the first panel and think for a while, you can usually find out the joke.

Stephan is either mistaken or lying here. You can TOTALLY say “poop” in a comic strip.

Again with the rebellion! It marches on across the comics page! Or, until we run into “Blondie” and anything edgy vanishes without a trace. I have to hand it to Pastis though, he’s waging a one-man war against a system that hasn’t changed since the 1950’s. It’s his own little crusade, and I’m all for it! Onwards Stephan! Onwards Pearls!

“Poop deck” is from the Latin “Puppis,” for the stern of a ship. There’s a constellation called Puppis, which is the stern of Jason’s ship the Argo. Along with Vela, the Sail; Carina, the Keel; and Pyxis, the Compass. Since Puppis is very close to the constellation Canis Major, the Great Dog, I used the think it represented Canis Major’s PUPPIES!
