I want to see Elizabeth’s babies and watch her life with Anthony evolve and see her grow. April, too. It can’t end now!!!!!

A grandchild saying something so beautiful to the woman her grandfather married after her grandmother died…. I hope more families are this blessed.

It’s not going to end now. I went online yesterday to Lynn Johnston’s official FBorFW site and it states that while she was originally going to retire, changes in her life have allowed her to change her mind about retiring. She is, however, going to, beginning Sept. 1st, be drawing in a retro fashion, but the comics, at least for the month of Sept will all be new material. After Sept, it will be a mix of new material and old strips (to re-tell stories and as sort of “flash backs”. So….IT’S NOT ending…at least not as soon as we all thought. Thank goodness!

It took courage to act according to his needs and it took courage to tell her that she was not what he needed, that who he really wanted to be with was me.

It’s not ending, good. I was counting on April to do something crazy & rebellious, like hitching off with her boyfriend & getting into drugs & become an exotic dancer or something. I know it’s not wholesome & does not set a good example but most people can not fathom a family this ideal.

Hey, Michael was living in sin, remember? April is definitely headed towards drugs, that’s why the strip is stopping now and going back to 1979.

Love is never wrong. Unless one of the persons involved wears too much of that awful AXE body cologne.

Iris isn’t a wife, she’s just an old man’s care-giver. She saves the Patterson family from a lot of work and worry about who’s taking care of Jim. They better be kissing her..umm..feet.

Iris is the kind of spouse any of us would want or need when we get to be old. She is much more than a caregiver. A paid caregiver or even a family member couldn’t give that much love and attention.

It’s a shame that some of the good strips have to end because the creator has retired or passed on without someone reliable to take it over, while other strips that should have ended years ago, still plod along with bad art and no plot to the storyline. I would rather see this strip end with Lynn’s retirement than be handed over to someone who would drive it into the ground and cause it to lose it’s charm, it’s warmth and feeling of family. For me, this strip isn’t just about “other” people. It’s like a window into lives of relatives and friends I didn’t know I had and sharing special moments with them. I don’t think there is any other strip ANYWHERE that can evoke that kind of emotion in a person.

Greypilgrim - i feel the same way about this strip. i’ve read it since it started in 1979. I like it when comics take time to develop characters with history and allow the reader insight into their psyche.
